Topics include: cellular ultrastructure and physiology; microbial metabolism and growth; properties and reproduction of viruses; microbial ecology; pathogenicity; and industrial applications of microbiology. Laboratory work stresses basic research techniques: microscopy, culture growth, isolation, and identification of microbes.
