This course examines the African American experience from its beginnings in Africa to the present. Specifically, the course will explore the themes of the Atlantic slave trade, construction of African American identities in slavery, slave resistance, emancipation, struggles for civil and political equality, the great migration from the rural South to the urban North, and the African American experience since the civil rights movement.
