Title:Music Theory IV
Description: Continued exploration of analytical arguments, concerning works of the late 19th and 20th centuries. Chromatic modulation, enharmonic chords, expanded tonicization, and linear harmonies. Compositional styles of Debussy, Stravinsky, Bartok, Messiaen, Schoenberg, Cage, Reich, and others will be examined. Detailed analysis of intervallic organization and serialism. Students will write a work in a 20th-century style. Computer-assisted instruction supplements course materials.
