Welcome to KT Days!

Each year brings new participants to the iconic KT Days (formerly KT Week) on the Maryville College campus.  In order to provide the best experience available, be sure to read the information below.

Check In & Check Out

Sunday afternoon DORM check-in is 2:00 – 4:00 pm in Lloyd Hall Lobby. Many participants that arrive on Sunday join together for an informal opening night at 6:00 pm for dinner at El Jimador Restaurant (1705 E. Lamar Alexander Pkwy, Maryville, TN 37804).  Dutch treat. Stop in at anytime between 6:00-8:00 pm.
Monday - Wednesday check-in is from 7:30 am  – 8:30 am at breakfast on the Pearsons front porch. Here you will receive your registration packets, including name tags and t-shirts.
Check out is on Thursday, June 4 between 9:00 am and 11:00 am.


Dorm living may be a new experience for some. Dorm rooms will be shared among volunteers.  Since this is not a hotel environment, please think back to your dorm room days and come prepared.  Past KT Volunteers have suggested bringing the following items:   

  • Extra washcloths and towels.  One each per guest is provided.  Some bring their own bathmat.
  • An extra pillow.
  • Soap for both sink and shower as well as shampoo/conditioner and other toiletries.
  • Soap dish.
  • Drinking glass for the room.
  • Hand and nail brush if you plan to paint or work in the dirt.
  • Extra blanket if you get cold easily (the dorm was has one set temperature and can be chilly for some).
  • Unbreakable, portable water bottle for filling at water stations during the day.
  • Flip-flops for showers.
  • Earplugs and/or a white-noise maker (i.e. a small fan).
Other Dorm Details
  • You may be sharing  a dorm room with up to 3 other KT volunteers of the same gender.
  • A washer and dryer are available in the dorm.
  • Rooms do not have TVs. There are limited TVs with limited cable service in the dorm common areas.
  • Wi-Fi is available without a password.  Choose “Scots” in your Wi-Fi set-up.
  • A communal kitchen space is available on each floor.
  • Housing on campus is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Housing and KT Week t-shirts cannot be guaranteed after the registration deadline of May , 2019.
  • At the end of your stay, you are asked to bundle your sheets, pillow case and towels provided (stuff them all in the pillow case for ease) and bring them to the first floor lobby for collection by housekeeping staff.
  • IMPORTANT:  If you are staying in the dorm and arrive other than Sunday 2-4 pm, the doors to the dorm are locked at all times.  There will be a sign on the door of Lloyd Hall with the phone number of your assigned dorm staff person. Call that number to get checked in to your room.


Bring clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty or potentially ruined.  Plan for the weather – hot, rainy, cool, dry – the varied of weather in East Tennessee is varied.  At the Wednesday evening’s Wrap-up dinner, some like to dress a little nicer than the working clothes they have been wearing all week but no dress code is expected.  Come as you choose!


KT Coordinators assign projects and teams according to current needs on campus, feasibility, cost and skill-level.  You are asked your preference of tasks on the registration form.  Please note that you must select your 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th choice assignments as there may not be enough work in one area for all those that request it.  Of course, you are asked to do what you are able to do so if you are assigned to something that does not fit you, simply tell your Team Leader so they can help get you reassigned.  We do our best to give everyone their preferences; however, it may not always be possible due to constraints and workflow.

For most teams, assignments are shared on Monday morning at the kick off breakfast.  If not during breakfast, come to Willard House and ask for instructions from there.

Meals are served at 7:30 am, 11:30 am and 5:00 pm each day in Pearsons Hall.  Each meal is buffet-style with many choices to meet every palate.  You will go through the line and show your name tag to the cashier as your ticket to get into the dining room.  You must enter through the front of the dining hall.  Seating for KT Volunteers is in the Proffitt Dining Room (PDR).

Coca-Cola products are sold in vending machines in various locations on campus.  Water stations will be set up in several locations near work sites. BRING A PORTABLE WATER BOTTLE for those water stations.  This reduces waste and allows you to have water with you wherever you go.

On Tuesday ice cream is brought around to the different work locations.  Be on the lookout for golf carts bearing yummy treats in the afternoon!

Free Time

During the working hours, be sure to take all the breaks you need – do not over work or over heat.  Tell your Team Leader if you need to sit out so they can plan work efficiently and take care of YOU!  After the evening meal, many KT Volunteers choose to spend time at Willard House gathering and reminiscing.

Full or Partial Schedule

You can volunteer for part of the program or for the entire program. Indicate on your registration form the days you intend on being on campus so we can plan for housing and meals efficiently.

Special Events

1) You must RSVP on the Registration Form for the Wednesday evening Wrap-up dinner at  held at the Alumni Gym.

2) The storytelling event at Willard House will be on Tuesday evening.  Beginning at 7:00 p.m. join the group in the Green Room to hear the tales told by your friends and classmates.  If you are interested in being a storyteller at the event, please contact Rosemary Potter '60 at rosemary_potter@msn.com

KT Week Gardening

Before & After Photos

We need your photos!  We do our best to take all of the projects’ “before” pictures prior to KT Week and in the past have tried to get accurate “after” pictures – all in an effort to create a Wrap-Up video for the final banquet.  In order to get the pictures needed, we are going to rely on you as team members to send the Alumni Office your ‘after’ photos – from the work sites from your cell phones.  Additionally, some projects come about in the middle of the week and we do not have a ‘before’ photo – so take and send those also!  Include your team members in the photo and send them to the Alumni Office at sue.waters@maryvillecollege.edu. Be sure to label them with location and project (i.e. "Fayerweather Rose Bushes-trimming/pruning").  If you need help with doing this, just bring your phone to Willard House and we will help you with the pictures.

Registration & Paperwork

Registration must be received by the Alumni Office by Friday, May 8, 2019 As stated above, housing on campus is limited and t-shirt orders go to the printer at this time.  Housing and t-shirts are not guaranteed after May 6. 

Registered participants must also complete the Volunteer Agreement & Waiver of Liability Form. Either mail to the address below or email to alumni@maryvillecollege.edu. If you have not completed the form by the time you arrive, you will be asked to complete it upon arrival.

KT Endowment

Two years ago, an endowment was set up to help fund the costs incurred by KT Days/Week. The graciousness of the alumni and friends that put the time and sweat equity into the amazing work done on campus during KT Days is a great benefit to the College.  However, the week comes with many large expenses related to housing, meals and materials.  Donations to the KT  Endowment help to offset the funds needed to make KT Days happen.  Special thanks goes out to those that started the KT Endowment and those that have added to the funds over the last two years.  To donate to the KT Endowment, the Maryville Fund or any other area of campus, go to the Giving page here.  Select 'Other" and type in KT Endowment.
