Carl M. Lazenby
Class of 1949
All Notes Memoriam

Carl M. Lazenby, 90, passed away Sunday, November 12, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday, November15, at Centenary United Methodist Church, in McComb, and continue until memorial service at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Jim Porter, Connie Felter, and Rev. Bob Phelps officiating. Carl was born October 22, 1927, in Gorgas, AL. He was the son of the late John F. and Ila Frances Johnson Lazenby. He grew up in Jasper, AL, and graduated from his beloved Maryville College in Maryville, TN, where he was a member of the college choir, and served on the Alumni Board for several years. Carl went on to earn degrees at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA, and Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA. He served the Lord as a Presbyterian (USA) minister for 15 years in Jonesville, LA, Dardanelle, AR, Little Rock, AR, and Arlington, VA. He worked in the Washington, DC, area for many years as an interior designer, photographer, and television news correspondent. Upon his move to McComb in November 1992, he changed his plans to rest in retirement, and worked for the Enterprise-Journal as well as for Southwest Broadcasting until his retirement at age 83. Until his death, he loved being recognized by his “radio voice”. Carl loved every aspect of life and found joy in each day. He loved to travel to the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Smoky Mountains, and the many mountain ranges and desert lands of the western United States. He loved all kinds of art, fine dining, live theater, reading, the Masters Golf Tournament which he was blessed to attend many years, and keeping up with all the news around Southwest Mississippi and the nation. He also enjoyed a lively political discussion. He was grateful to everyone who cared for him during his last years on earth – the staff of Liberty Community Living Center, especially the staff of the Alzheimer’s Unit, St. Luke Hospice, and all the many friends and family who lovingly fed him in every sense of the word. Carl never encountered a stranger and could find something in common with everyone he met. He adopted McComb and Pike County as if this were his hometown area instead of his wife’s. He loved digging into its history, and became a speaker and tour leader sharing his love of the cemeteries and old communities here. Carl was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, and attended J. J. White Memorial Presbyterian Church often, both of which he dearly loved. He was particularly fond of the children of Centenary, and they loved him in return. He was a former member of the McComb Rotary Club, the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, and helped build Pike County’s first Habitat for Humanity home. He was active in Mississippi Methodist Cursillo, serving as Rector and staff member many times. One of his greatest joys was sponsoring pilgrims to Cursillo, and “expecting a miracle” right along with them. He will be sorely missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Gordon Lazenby whom he married April 22, 1979; his beloved children Daryl Ashley, of San Pedro, CA, Debbie Perkins and husband Scott, of Ashland, KY, and Dawn Lazenby of Northern VA; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Carolyn Boyd, brother-in-law Mac Gordon and wife Mary Lee, his long-time dearest friend, Judy Foster, and his beloved pets, especially his dog Lizzy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John F. Lazenby, and his sister, Frieda Lazenby James. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations go to Maryville College, Centenary UMC, or the Charles B. Gordon Scholarship in Journalism at the University of Mississippi which Carl established after his father-in-law’s death.

Carl Ludovic Lindsay
Class of 1950
All Notes Memoriam

a lawyer in the New Hope and Doylestown areas for more than 50 years, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at his home in Solebury. He was 87.

Lindsay grew up in Northeast Pennsylvania, spending most of his childhood in Honsdale Pa. After attending Maryville College in Maryville Tennessee, he moved to Camden New Jersey where he worked as an insurance adjuster and attended law school at night at Rutgers University. After graduation Lindsay was drafted into the Army and spent 18 months in Germany during the Allied occupation following World War II.

Upon returning to the states Lindsay settled in Doylestown, Pa and became a member of the Doylestown Bar. He opened his law offices in New Hope shortly thereafter and spent the rest of his career there.

Lindsay was a prominent figure in town for decades. He was one of the founders of the New Hope Historical Society and was involved, as an attorney, in many of the building projects in the area. There's hardly a property in the borough that he didn't help an owner sell, rezone, get permission to renovate or subdivide at some point. His knowledge of the New Hope Zoning Ordinance was nearly encyclopedic.

More importantly, he was a part of the fabric of town. He could always be seen walking, with his signature crew cut, up and down main street, talking to everyone and telling stories. His sense of humor, his intellect, and his strong ideals will be missed by many.

He is survived by his partner of 15 years, Carol Corbett, his three children, Christine Lindsay Farley, Anne Lindsay Thornton, and CL Lindsay III, his three grandchildren, Helen and Karen Thornton and Jack Farley and his good friend and caretaker for the past two years, Margarida Faia. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Kinnamon Lindsay in 1997.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to Maryville College, 502 East Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804. A graveside service was held at Trinity Episcopal Church Saturday, January 17, at 2 pm.
