MC Identity Week


April 2 - 7, 2017

Identity Week Participants Will:

  • Recognize how their own and others’ identities influence their interactions.

  • Listen to others’ views and analyze these in relation to their own reflexive listening.

  • Take on and try to understand multiple perspectives different from their own.

  • Skillfully navigate uncomfortable and controversial dialogues and reflect on these dialogues.

  • Formulate thoughtful, high-order questions that challenge their own preconceptions.

Activities and Events:


MC SAYS            

Monday - Friday April 3-7th Pearson's Lobby (12-1 MWF or 12:30-1:30 TR)
Participants will help create a narrative of their own stories on IDENTITY and how their Maryville College experience has changed, challenged or confirmed what they believe. Stories can be submitted online using the link on the right.  In addition to narratives, participants can share their faces and thoughts on identity by participating in the daily photo sessions in front of Pearsons, MWF 12-1 pm & TR 12:30-1:30pm. Photos and narratives will be displayed in the Pearsons Lobby and online.  


Monday, April 3 6:00pm Bartlett Hall 101
With the new wave of civil rights, the term “intersectionality” has come into play as true progress toward justice calls for more diversity in the inclusion of all types of people. Students, both different yet interconnected, will come together to discuss the complexity of their own identities and why every part of an identity matters.   

DINNER & LEARN: The Black Experience in the Workplace  "Am I overreacting?"

The Black Student Alliance will lead this dinner and learn about the Black Experience in the Workplace.   Grab some food at Pearson's Dining Hall and come to the PDR to learn!

PSA and Peace and World Concerns will be hosting a fundraising yard sale to collect needed items for refugees.

This eye-opening experience tests your preconceived knowledge about different types of oppression. Sponsored by multiple organizations:  GCO + PSA + LSA + BSA + SLK + LGBTQ+ Alliance.
