MC sells “Scots for Houston” T-shirts to support Harvey relief efforts

Aug. 29, 2017

With more than 40 current Maryville College students from the greater Houston area – and scores of MC alumni, faculty, staff and friends who call Houston home – the College is selling specially designed t-shirts to raise money for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

The T-shirt design features an outline of the state of Texas and Houston skyline, along with the words “Scots for Houston” and the hashtag #HoustonStrong.

A limited number of shirts will be available for purchase ($15) at the Sept. 2 football game on campus. Starting Sun., Sept. 3, T-shirts can be preordered online to be picked up in person at the football game on campus on Sept. 9. T-shirts can also be shipped to anywhere in the U.S. for an additional $5. (The link for preordering T-shirts will be posted here when we receive it.)

One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross’s relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. To donate directly to the hurricane relief effort in Texas, Maryville College recommends the following organizations that are serving the affected area: Presbyterian Disaster Assistancethe American Red Cross and All Hands Volunteers.

“Maryville College is nearly 1,000 miles from Houston, but the tragedy of Harvey and the resulting flooding hit us close to home,” said Maryville College President Tom Bogart. “Southeast Texas and the Upper Gulf Coast regions are home to scores of our current students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends. As flood waters continue to rise, we are encouraging members of the Maryville College family everywhere to help in any way they can, in the words of Maryville College founder Rev. Isaac Anderson, to 'do good on the largest possible scale.’”
