Sept. 7, 2018

Alayne BowmanAlayne Bowman, Maryville College’s director of financial aid, has been named the school's next vice president for admissions and financial aid.  She will begin her duties officially on September 10.

Maryville College President Dr. Tom Bogart made the announcement in a memorandum distributed to the campus community on Aug. 31.

As vice president for admissions and financial aid, Bowman will oversee and manage all programs and initiatives related to the recruitment of new students, provide oversight for the financial aid office and be responsible for new student enrollment management. She also will serve as the senior staff liaison to the admissions committee of the College’s Board of Directors.

“I am confident that Alayne possesses the education, work experience, skills, energy, creativity and drive to be an effective leader of our admissions and financial aid offices,” Bogart wrote in the memo to faculty, staff and students. “Among a pool of three highly qualified finalists, Alayne distinguished herself by clearly characterizing both the challenges facing Maryville College and a strategic approach to accomplishing our goals.”

Bowman joined the College’s staff in 2004 as an admissions counselor. She holds a master of education degree from Lincoln Memorial University with a concentration in educational leadership. Her undergraduate degree in social work was earned at East Carolina University.

In 2008, Bowman was promoted to senior assistant director of admissions and transfer coordinator, then associate director of financial aid in 2009. In 2015, she was promoted to director of financial aid.

The interview process for the vice president position included a forum with members of the College’s faculty and staff, allowing candidates to make presentations and answer questions from those in attendance. President Bogart then asked for feedback.

“Evaluations from campus community members revealed that people were impressed by Alayne’s clear vision of the College’s strengths combined with ideas for growth,” he wrote in the memo. “She was described as enthusiastic, articulate, poised and prepared with a wealth of information.”

In addition to membership with the state, regional and national associations for student financial aid administrators, Bowman has served as a member of the Board of Directors for CASA of the Tennessee Heartland.

On the Maryville College campus, she has served on the College’s Planning, Budgeting and Advisory Board and the College's Staff Council, serving as chair in 2015-2016.

In 2014, Bowman received the College’s Sharon A. Murphy Crane Distinguished Service Award, which is awarded annually to a member of the staff who has demonstrated the spirit of service and commitment to the general good of the College that characterized Crane's eight years as a College employee. It is considered the College's most prestigious award for staff members.

She is married to Noah Bowman, assistant director for learning services at the College.
