Prayer of Invocation for Tennessee's 111th General Assembly

Invocation for the Feb. 25 Session of Tennessee's 111th General Assembly

Delivered by Maryville College Campus Minister, the Rev. Dr. Anne D. McKee

Holy and gracious God, we come before you as busy people, with items on the agenda that may seem small, but underneath the surface will impact the lives of many. In the midst of all that is before us, today especially we give thanks for young people, for their curiosity, their energy, their desire to make their mark on the world. We are grateful for all who help guide and shape their lives – for schools and colleges, teachers and administrators, for each institution that dedicates itself to shaping leaders for a world in need. So, as we consider the business before us, we pray that we would keep in mind our calling to serve our whole state. We pray that our actions here will open paths of inquiry, learning, and welcome, that those who come after us might travel farther than we have, might do good on the largest possible scale, and might live together in peace and hope. We pray in your holy name. Amen.
