MC again designated a Military Friendly® School

MC again designated a Military Friendly® School

July 23, 2019

Because of its commitment to and success in attracting and supporting military-related students, MC again has been listed among Viqtory Media's Military Friendly® Schools. The 2019 recognition is the fourth in four years from Viqtory, which is considered a standard-setter for colleges providing positive employment and education outcomes for veterans and their families.

The ratings were scored from three data sources: publicly available federal agency data; opinion data from veteran students; and survey data from participating organizations. The Military Friendly® Advisory Council and third-party auditor Ernst & Young verify the results by examining student-veteran retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence and loan default rates. Details about the results and ratings are posted on the Military Friendly website.

Maryville College President Dr. Tom Bogart said veterans exemplify the College’s mission of preparing students who “dedicate lives of creativity and service to the peoples of the world.”

“We are grateful for their service and proud to welcome them as part of the Maryville College community,” the president added. “Veterans add important dimensions to the Maryville College experience. The life experience and professional skills developed in the military give our veterans context and insight that improve discussions in and out of class.”

Maryville College (MC) accepts military Tuition Assistance (TA), Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits, TN Strong Act and other veteran educational benefits. Additionally, MC offers a unique level of support with its MC Helping Heroes Scholarship for those military members who have not accrued 100 percent of VA education benefits. The College also provides academic credit for formal military training, accommodations for those with disabilities and career placement assistance for veterans.

The College also employs several faculty and staff members who have served in the military, said Jim Humphrey, a 21-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the College’s assistant admissions director for transfer and veteran recruiting.

“They understand the unique needs of military students,” he said of the College’s employees. “Staff and faculty members serve as advisors and resources for both the students and their families.”
