Assistant Professor of Theatre

Andy Vaught grew up in Covington, Louisiana, where he learned how to make theatre in a barn with a tin roof. He received a BA in History and a BA in Theatre from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. After completing an apprenticeship at the Arden Theatre in Philadelphia, he moved to New Orleans where he founded the Cripple Creek Theatre Company, an anarcho-syndicalist performance troupe dedicated to provoking social action through dramatic spectacle. He comes to MC from Little Rock Arkansas where he was the Hendrix Murphy Visiting Fellow in Theatre.

He writes plays about monster truck drivers and unwise explorers, believes firmly in inanimate objects speaking their piece on the stage, and is dedicated to helping the students at Maryville College develop into well rounded creators of the future. He holds an M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of New Orleans.
