Japanese Traditional Matcha Tea Ceremony

Learn the rich culture of Japan by immersing yourself in the traditional art of Tea Making, known as temae (点前)!
All Maryville College students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend this unique opportunity to engage with Japanese culture through an interactive session where you’ll discover chanoyu (茶の湯), ‘The Way of Tea,’ and learn the intricate ceremonial process of preparing and presenting matcha (抹茶), Japan’s revered powdered green tea. This ancient practice is a profound reflection of mindfulness, harmony, and respect. Supplies limited to the first 20 participants, but observation is also encouraged.
