Maryville College is seeking applicants for the position of Archives & College History Librarian. This position is a part-time professional position, working 1075 hours annually (25 hours per week, 43 weeks per year).

Job Summary:  Under the general direction of the Library Director, the Archives and College History Librarian manages archival collections documenting the College’s history.

Essential duties and responsibilities:  Organizes and preserves college history materials in all formats. Catalogs and provides searchable access to college history materials in all formats.  Provides research assistance services for college history materials. Leads and coordinates efforts to digitize college history materials. Supervises student projects in archives and college history. Provides public presentations on archival collections. Supports digital scholarship initiatives. Coordinates institutional repository initiatives. Supervises volunteers. Provides research assistance services in main library as needed. Participates in physical and digital collection development for main library.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Library Director.  Works well independently and collaboratively with others.  Regular attendance is required. Supervises volunteers, work study students, and student projects and internships working with college history materials.

Requirements: Master’s degree in archival studies or American Library Association accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science with a concentration in archival studies. Experience providing research assistance for archival collections. Experience processing, describing, organizing, preserving, and digitizing archival materials. Demonstrated understanding of archival collections and principles of arrangement and description. Familiarity with current archival metadata and digital imaging standards. Experience applying metadata standards and schema for descriptive, structural, and preservation metadata such as DACS, Dublin Core, EAD, PREMIS, METS, MODS preferred. Familiarity with one or more digital platforms such as Bepress, SharedShelf, ArchivesSpace, Omeka, ContentDM preferred. Must be comfortable creating digital representations of print and photographic original materials. Knowledge of library descriptive standards such as MARC, RDA, LCSH helpful. Experience working in academic libraries desired.  Experience with database programs such as SQL or MS Access and with image scanning and processing software desired.
