Assistant Professor of Exercise Science

Biography

Dr. McCarthy completed her undergraduate degree in biology with a minor in psychology. She went on to get her masters in kinesiology from the University of Arkansas, where she was first exposed to concussion research. She stayed on as a graduate assistant and completed her Ph.D. in Sport, Health, and Exercise Science at Arkansas. Following her doctorate training, she did her postdoctoral research fellowship with Harvard Medical School and the University of New England. Her research focus is on sport-related concussion. In her free time, Dr. McCarthy enjoys traveling abroad, as well as going to sporting events, art shows, and hiking with her dog and husband. They have goals to see every national park in the U.S., but most recently visited Arcadia in Maine in the spring of 2024.
