Dr. Kavita Singh teaches courses in Marketing, Consumer Behavior, Retail Management, and Management at Maryville College. She brings together years of industry experience with academic insights, and a genuine enthusiasm for understanding why consumers do what they do and how do firms add value to their lives.

Dr. Singh holds an MBA from the Indian School of Business, and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her dissertation, Developing and Testing Intervention Strategies to Encourage the Adoption of Preferred Laundry Behaviors, explores motivations for sustainable consumer practices.

Before entering academia, Dr. Singh spent years in brand and product management with brands such as Wrangler and Levi’s in India and ran her own entrepreneurial venture of souvenir products under the brand name Beenthere. In the classroom, she uses case studies, hands-on exercises, and consumer stories to illustrate marketing/management concepts.

Dr. Singh’s research interests focus on understanding the psychological and sociological underpinnings of everyday consumption decisions. She enjoys historical fiction and is working toward the slow living lifestyle – though the academic treadmill has other ideas.
