Dr. Heath began teaching at Maryville College in 2016 as an adjunct instructor and recently joined as a full time Visiting Lecturer for the 2022-2023 academic year. She earned a B.A. in English at Concord University in Athens, West Virginia, her M.A. at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, and her Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She specializes in 19th century British Romanticism, with a particular focus on verse satire. Her Dissertation examined the ways in which stereotypes and discrimination against Scottish and Irish individuals in 18th and 19th century Britain shaped the satires of Robert Burns, Thomas Moore, and Lord Byron.

As a graduate of a small liberal arts college, Dr. Heath has a broad range of interests in addition to 19th century literature, including comics and graphic novels, and Greek history and language.

As an instructor, she approaches teaching from a position of empathy, encouragingstudents to find personal relevance and a greater interest in their work.
