J. Thomas (Tom) Lundberg is active as a trombonist and educator in the East Tennessee area. He is a founding member and lead trombonist with Knoxville Jazz Orchestra, acting principal trombonist with Symphony of the Mountains, bass trombonist with Oak Ridge Symphony and additional freelance work in chamber music, theater, and jazz. Additionally, Tom teaches low brass at Walters State Community College, Sevier campus and directs the WSCC-Sevier Community Band. He directs the Knoxville Jazz Youth Orchestra. Since relocating to East Tennessee from Nashville Tom has held positions at ETSU, Roane State Community College and Pellissippi State Community College, where he taught for over 20 years. He is also active in recording with appearances on the Max Frank label including as leader on ‘Prime Time’ with an octet of area musicians.
While in Nashville Tom held positions at Trevecca Nazarene University, Belmont University and Austin Peay State University. He also toured and recorded with a number of ensembles and artists including Kenny Rogers, Boots Randolph, Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass, Mr. Jack Daniel’s Original Silver Cornet Band, and more. He has performed internationally with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Perez Prado Orchestra, the Kruger brothers, and Knoxville Jazz Orchestra. Tom maintains an active private teaching studio; his students regularly attend All-East as well as All State clinics and compete successfully for college scholarships. Former students are successful performers and educators across the country and overseas. Tom enjoys hiking, exploring, and traveling.
