Background

On October 20, 2023, Maryville College was awarded a $2.25 million, five-year Title III Strengthening Institutions (SIP) Grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Title III funding supports institutions of higher education in expanding their capacity to serve students. These funds are allowing us to enhance student support services, improve the first-year experience, and better utilize institutional data. The grant has two main objectives: to improve first-to-second-year retention rates and to improve four-year graduation rates.

Located in Thaw Hall, the Scots Learning Commons offers a dynamic, student-centered environment that promotes collaboration, academic support, and engagement. The space integrates key student success services—including Academic Advising, Academic Support, Digital Edge, Disability Resources and Accessibility, and the Lamar Memorial Library—and features a new “GPS” help desk to guide students to the resources they need.
