The Maryville College Alumni Directory is designed to facilitate communication among alumni for personal or College-related purposes.

I. Privacy and Security

The College has not, does not and will never sell alumni information to anyone. All alumni information is strictly guarded for use by individual alumni and the College for personal and College-related purposes only.

The College has taken all reasonable precautions to secure the personal information available through the Alumni Directory. The Alumni Directory is password protected to allow access only by registered College alumni, faculty, staff, and students. Although this precaution should effectively protect any personal information available through the Alumni Directory from abuse or outside interference, a certain degree of privacy risk is faced any time information is shared over the Internet. Therefore, you can hide your information from being viewed by other community members.

You further understand that it is your responsibility to keep your information in the Alumni Directory updated, and that Maryville College may periodically use the contact information to communicate with you.

II. Policy and Guidelines for Proper Use

To safeguard the operation of the Alumni Directory, the College has adopted many guidelines and policies that are used by the College to govern conduct, particularly conduct that occurs in an online environment.

In addition to the College’s policies and guidelines, users of the Alumni Directory must abide by the following specific rules and regulations:

A. Unauthorized copying, reproduction, republishing, uploading, downloading, posting, transmitting or duplicating any of the material is prohibited. You may download or copy any downloadable materials displayed on the Alumni Directory for home, noncommercial and personal use only; provided, however, that you maintain all copyright, trademark and other notices contained in such material and you agree to abide by all additional copyright notices or restrictions contained in any material accessed through the Alumni Directory.

B. As a condition for your use of the Alumni Directory, you agree that you will not:

  • use this Directory for any unlawful purpose including, but not limited to, forging information, impersonating other people, contributing information which you know to be false, or misrepresenting your affiliation with any person or entity;
  • use this Directory for commercial purposes; for the benefit of any for-profit or not-for-profit business or organization (other than Maryville College); for academic research; for political, religious, or charitable solicitations of any kind; or for any other purpose other than to maintain and strengthen your relationship with other alumni and Maryville College;
  • use this Directory for purpose of threatening, abusing, “stalking,” harassing, defaming, harming, or offending any person or persons in any way; or for the purpose of invading the privacy of another; or for a purpose that may, in any manner, be considered objectionable (e.g., racist, vulgar, etc.) to other Users;
  • upload, e-mail, post or otherwise send or transmit any content which you do not have a right to transmit under any law or under contractual or fiduciary relationship (such as inside information, proprietary and confidential information learned or disclosed as part of employment relationship, or under nondisclosure agreements);
  • infringe, misappropriate, or otherwise violate any existing national or international copyright, trademark, service mark, trade name, or other intellectual property or proprietary rights of any person or entity whatsoever;
  • give your password to anyone, use this Directory as the agent of a third party, or allow any third party to use your account;
  • violate any other terms or conditions contained in this Agreement.

Maryville College, in its sole and absolute discretion, shall determine whether any information transmitted, collected, or received, violates these rules. Maryville College has the right (but not the obligation) to refuse to post, or to remove, any information or content, in whole or in part, that is objectionable or in violation of this Agreement.

C. The College is not responsible for screening communications in advance and will not actively monitor the use of the Alumni Directory. For this reason, it is essential that the alumni users of the Alumni Directory report any abuses or misuse of the Alumni Directory to the College. If the College determines that a user’s participation in the Alumni Directory creates a liability for the College or that the user has violated the policies set forth herein, the College reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to take actions against the user. The College reserves the right to expel a user and deny a user further access to the Alumni Directory if such user violates these policies or any applicable laws or regulations.

III. Liability and Indemnity

The reliability of the information available through the Alumni Directory is largely dependent upon the actions of community registrants. The College can make no representations about the accuracy, reliability, completeness, or timeliness of this information.

The College does not warrant that the Alumni Directory will operate error-free or that the site and its server are free of computer viruses or other harmful material. To the fullest extent permitted by the law, the College disclaims all warranties, including the warranties of merchantability, non-infringement, and fitness for particular purpose. In no event shall the College be liable for any damages whatsoever, including, without limitation, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, resulting from the use of or inability to use information or materials available on the Alumni Directory.

By using the Alumni Directory, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the College, its trustees, officers, agents, students, and employees, from any judgments, damages, costs and expenses, including reasonable attorney’s fees from any claim, action or proceeding that may arise from your use of the Alumni Directory or your breach of these policies. The College will provide notice to you of any such action or claim, and reserves the right to participate, at our expense, in the investigation, settlement, and defense of any such action or claim.

It is the intention of Maryville College to provide an online alumni directory free of charge to our alumni. However, should circumstances warrant it, Maryville College retains the right to discontinue this service.

Please note that the College may revise these policies, and your continued use of the site constitutes your agreement to comply with such modifications. You should review the policies periodically to ensure that you are familiar with them.

Participation in the Alumni Directory is a privilege. By using the service, you agree to abide by the policies outlined herein. If you cannot accept these policies, please do not register as a user of the Alumni Directory.
