Brahams Scholars

The Brahams Scholarship program at Maryville College was established with a gift from the estate of Ellen Brahams on May 1, 2020. Brick and Ellen Brahams deeply valued service to the community and wanted to ensure students can complete their education while making a difference.

The program seeks to help middle-income families afford college, while also promoting engagement in the community of Blount County, so that students will grow in their understanding, skills, and commitment to others, and can carry on Isaac Anderson’s desire to “do good on the largest possible scale.”

The scholarship is awarded to students with a heart for service that are above the need-based requirement of Bonner. Brahams scholars are required to do 6 hours per week and will complete 90 hours of service by the end of a semester. This scholarship awards $4,000 per year.

Local Volunteer Placement

Community Engaged Scholars give thousands of hours per year to a variety of community agencies in the Blount and Knox County areas. Below are a few of the many organizations that our Scholars currently serve at:

Additional Activities

Brahams Scholars are required to participate in Community Engaged Scholar activities, such as monthly reflection meetings. The Community Engaged Scholars program uses the curriculum provided by The Corella and Bertrum F. Bonner Foundation for on-campus development and trainings with all Community Engaged Scholars.
