Vocabulary

  • Housing Selection: The process where current students choose housing for the next academic year.
  • Roommates: Individuals who reside in the same bedroom as you.
  • Suitemates: Individuals who reside in the same suite, but not in the same bedroom.
  • Highlander Hub: The online platform used for filling out the housing application, selecting roommates/suitemates, and choosing a meal plan.
  • Housing Lottery: The process of assigning order numbers to groups on each selection night to determine the order of selection.
  • Rising ____: The term used for what your year status will be next year. i.e. a Rising Sophomore is a current freshman.

How the Housing Lottery Works:

For the lottery, points are assigned based on Class standing.

  • Rising Seniors = 3 points
  • Rising Juniors = 2 points
  • Rising Sophomores = 1 points

A matched group with 4 rising seniors = 16 points | A matched group with 3 rising seniors and 1 rising junior = 15 points.

  • If 2 groups have the same number of points. For example, 2 groups of 4 rising seniors each with 16 points. The 2 groups would be sent through a random number generator to determine the lottery order.

Priority will go to FULL suites.

  • Groups of 6 will select before groups of 5, groups of 5 before groups of 4, and groups of 4 before groups of 3. For example, even though a suite of 3 rising seniors would have 9 points, a suite of 4 rising juniors with 8 points would select first because groups that can fully fill suites receive priority.

How to Request Roommates / Suitemates

Determine a Group Leader

  • Choose one person to serve as your Group Leader. This person will send all roommate/suitemate requests and will select a suite for the group during the housing selection timeslot.
  • Reminder: Most groups will need to be groups of four, as that is style of most spaces available on campus.

Submit Roommate/Suitemate Requests

  1. Log in to Highlander Hub
  2. Go to Residence LifeRoommate Requests
    • This can also be accessed by scrolling down on the Dashboard/Home Screen of the Highlander Hub.
  3. Select the Fall 2026–2027 Session.
  4. Click “Request Roommate.”
    • Note: In this portal, “roommate” and “suitemate” are used interchangeably. The Group Leader will assign who goes into which room when selecting the suite.
  5. Search for and select your intended roommate/suitemate(s).
    • If someone does not appear in the search, it is likely that they have not yet completed their housing application. Please have them complete that step first, and they should then appear in the system.
    • If they have already completed the housing application, try searching by their last name. If that doesn’t work, please contact residence.life@maryvillecollege.edu so we can help troubleshoot.

Final Groups are due March 27th!

Approximate Suite Type Availability:

  • 4 six-person rooms (Beeson)
  • 4 five-person (quint) rooms (Carneige)
  • 87 four-person (quad) rooms (Beeson, Carnegie, Gibson, and Lloyd)
  • 9 three-person (triple) rooms (Carnegie, Gibson, and Lloyd)
  • 15 two-person (double) rooms (Carnegie & Pearsons)
  • 9 true-singles (Copeland, Davis, & Gamble)

Note: These numbers are a rough estimate and may change prior to selection.

How to Choose a Room

*Please see the step-by-step guide with screenshots and the list of all rooms on campus below.

Note: Students in 5-person and 6-person groups may be contacted and assigned just before housing selection begins. Because these spaces are limited (only 4 of each), this allows students who were not able to secure these types of those rooms the chance to regroup before housing selection week.

  • Once lottery numbers are calculated (the week before selection), all students will receive their assigned timeslot to select housing.
  • At your scheduled timeslot, the group leader should log in to Highlander Hub to complete the selection process.
  • If possible, we recommend that everyone in the group be present or reachable during selection, or that you discuss several backup options ahead of time.
  • Be flexible. Your first choice may not be available, so it is helpful to go into the process with multiple options that would work for your group.

Steps to Select a Room

  1. Log in to Highlander Hub.
  2. Go to Residence Life → Room Selection.
    • You can also access this by scrolling down on the Dashboard/Home Screen of Highlander Hub.
  3. Select the Fall 2026–2027 Session.
  4. Click “Browse Rooms.”
    • The system will only display rooms that are still available and large enough for your entire group.
    • You can browse available spaces or search for specific rooms using the filter features.
    • Click on the orange highlighted room name to view details such as bathrooms, common areas, and the number of bedrooms.
  5. Click “Select Suite.”
  6. Click “Select Suite & Continue.”
    • At this stage, a dropdown menu will appear for each person in your group so you can assign them to a specific bedroom within the suite.
  7. Click “Confirm and Finish.”
  8. Then select “Confirm Selection.”
    • After completing the process, you can view your suite and bedroom assignments in the Room Selection section of Highlander Hub.

Congratulations! You are now assigned for next year.
