Associate Academic Dean, Director of Institutional Research, and Professor of Biology, Natural Sciences

Dr. Jerilyn Swann joined the MC biology faculty in 1999. She has been Associate Academic Dean and Director of Institutional Research since 2019. Her areas of academic specialty include cell and tissue biology. Her research has involved a range of ciliated cells including mammalian palatine and tracheal epithelia and the protozoan, Tetrahymena pyriformis. Prior to joining Academic Affairs in an administrative role, she served as chair of the Natural Sciences Division (2011-2017) and Faculty Chair (2017-2019). Swann holds B.S. (1992), M.S. (1994), and Ph.D. (1998) degrees in Zoology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. Swann enjoys taking students to national and regional meetings of the American Society for Cell Biology to present their original research and network for graduate schools and job placements. She also enjoys taking students to Costa Rica for experiences in life science and outdoor fitness.
