Executive Director for Marketing and Communications

Karen’s association with Maryville College spans 25 years – first as a student and now as an employee. A writing/communication major at Maryville, she spent a few years in the newspaper business before returning to the College, in 1997, as the Director of Alumni and Parent Relations. In 1999, she moved over to the Communications Office and has been a part of its evolution ever since.

With titles ranging from Director of News and Sports Information, Director of News and Public Information, Director of Communications and now Executive Director for Marketing & Communications, she has created, helped coordinate, overseen or participated in:

  • strategic planning;
  • redesigns of College publications, websites and logos;
  • College print and electronic publications;
  • marketing videos;
  • scripts for the College’s presidents and vice presidents; and
  • media relations.

She leads the College’s Integrated Marketing Group and serves on the College’s Cabinet, Strategic Partnerships Group, Social Media Team and Crisis Management Team. She also is an active member of the Tennessee College Public Relations Association.
