MCET Attends Sewanee IHSA Show

Maryville College Equestrian Team (MCET) arrived at Sewanee: University of the South for their first Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) show of the season. Although the team did not win overall, individual riders were rewarded for weeks of hard work at the barn, especially freshman Kelley Blankenship who won the ribbon for High Point Rider on Sunday, Oct. 4.

The Maryville College Equestrian Team kicked off their fall season by mucking stalls, painting jump poles, and lessoning in the early morning as the sun was just beginning to rise.

Sewanee Show a Sucess for MCET, Pate Wins High Point Rider

The Maryville College Equestrian Team experienced a great deal of success during its first seasonal competition at The University of the South (Sewanee). After the first day of showing on Saturday, five of the fifteen riders from Maryville - Emma DuBose, Lauren Dukes, Anna Glass, Lee Steenbergen, and Tara Vander Wielen - collected enough individual points to move up in the division rankings. Out of those five riders, four have also qualified for regional competition in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association's Hunt Seat show in March 2009. Collectively, the Maryville College Equestrian Team (MCET) garnered over 30 individual ribbons and several team points over the course of the weekend.
Maryville College Equestrian Experiences Major Changes, Prepares for First Horse Show of the Season

Since the beginning of 2008, the Maryville College Equestrian Team (MCET) has experienced numerous changes that have had a great impact on the team's functionality and presence amongst other schools in the region. After a period of transition from the team's former self-operated facility in Rockford, TN to a new center in Friendsville, the team also experienced the stresses of locating a new coach after former trainer Emile Hart-Finstad's retirement after the 2008 Spring semester.
