The Orchestra at Maryville College: A College and Community Ensemble will perform sounds of the Christmas season during its annual holiday concert, scheduled this year for 7:30 p.m., Dec. 8, in Wilson Chapel on the Maryville College campus.

Highlights of the program include orchestral selections of Handel’s “Messiah” and “Overture to the Music from the Royal Fireworks,” Christmas favorites “Sleigh Ride” and “Song of the Bells” by composer LeRoy Anderson and other seasonal tunes.

Aaron Copland’s “Variations on a Shaker Melody” is also on the program.

Lee Kull conducts the orchestra, which was formerly known as the Maryville-Alcoa College-Community Orchestra (or “MACCO”). The group consists of nearly 60 professional and volunteer musicians from the community and College.

Prior to the concert and during intermission, a local artist will display original work in the colonnade of Wilson Chapel.

The Toys for Tots program will be a part of the evening festivities with free admission to those who donate a toy. Individual tickets purchased at the door are $10 for adults; $7.50 for seniors. School-aged children through high school are admitted free. Tickets for college students (other than MC students) are $5 each.

Remaining Orchestra performances for the 2003-2004 season are scheduled for March 8 and April 26.
