MC International Education Month 2023
International Education Month at Maryville College is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange right here at home. It is part of our efforts to promote programs that prepare U.S. Americans for a global environment and encourage interaction with international students and their cultures. This is our extended edition of the US State Department and Department of Education International Education Week initiative.
This program allows students to explore other parts of the world right here on campus. Different campus divisions and departments will showcase different countries around the world throughout the month with displays that include items like photos, trivia, maps, flags, cultural artifacts and study abroad program information.

Global Learning through Cultural Celebration!
In partnership with SPB (Student Programming Board) and GCO (Global Citizenship Organization) the Center for Global Engagement is hosting the Holi Festival of Spring on March 29 @ 3:30pm in front of Pearson’s. Join us to get wet, throw some color and celebrate spring (and the end of International Education Month). White masks will be provided to up to 50 participants.
“Holi is an important spring festival for Hindus, a national holiday in India and Nepal with regional holidays in other countries. To many Hindus and some non-Hindus, it is a playful cultural event and an excuse to throw colored powder or water at friends or strangers in jest. It is also observed broadly in the Indian subcontinent. Holi is celebrated at the end of winter, on the last full moon day of the Hindu luni-solar calendar month marking the spring, making the date vary with the lunar cycle. It marks the beginning of spring after a long winter, symbolic of the triumph of good over evil. It is celebrated in March, corresponding to the Hindu calendar month of Phalguna. In 2021, Holi begins March 28-29. It is a festival that celebrated agriculture, commemorated good spring harvests and the fertile land.” (Source: https://time.com/5799354/what-is-holi/#:~:text=Holi%20has%20been%20celebrated%20in,Hindu%20calendar%20month%20of%20Phalguna.)
