What are the eligibility requirements?

All applicants must meet at least one of the following eligibility requirements prior to acceptance into the program:

  • be a first-generation college student;
  • have high financial need; and/or
  • have a documented disability – students must be registered with Maryville College’s Disability Services Office

What does first generation mean?

According to the US Department of Education, being first generation means that neither of your natural or adoptive parents/guardians or the parent/guardian you lived with most, has a bachelor’s degree from a 4-year institution. If your parent attended a 4-year institution but did not graduate or earned an associate’s degree, you are still considered first generation.

I make excellent grades at Maryville College. Is TRIO SSS for me?

Yes! Participants in TRIO SSS vary greatly based on academic achievement, age, ethnicity, major, and classification. The one thing all participants should have in common, other than eligibility criteria, is a drive to complete Maryville College successfully and be well prepared for the future.

Does TRIO offer scholarships?

TRIO SSS is not a scholarship program although we award a limited number of stipends to students who complete the participation requirements and who are receiving a Pell grant.
