Prospective students invited to ‘Meet Maryville’ Oct. 30
Oct. 15, 2021
High school students, adult learners and college transfer students are all invited to the “Meet Maryville” event scheduled for Sat., Oct. 30, 2021 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Hosted by Maryville College’s Admissions Office, the in-person event is designed to help prospective students and their families get to know the nationally ranked college known for providing students with an educational experience that prepares them for anything – to address the hard problems, to connect with people all over the globe and to succeed in any career.
“Whether attendees have been regulars at athletic games and music concerts or have never set foot on campus, they’ll learn something new at ‘Meet Maryville,’” said Alayne Bowman, the College’s vice president for admissions and financial aid. “In addition to learning about programs of study, campus life, financial aid and scholarships, attendees will participate in an ‘MC Distinctives’ session to learn about why Maryville College is unique.”
After hearing a welcome address from Maryville College President Bryan F. Coker, attendees will have an opportunity to participate in a variety of sessions, which will allow attendees to speak directly with MC faculty, staff and students about academic programs, campus organizations and student life at MC. Session topics include Maryville College Works and Career Preparation, Education Abroad and Global+, Mountain Challenge, Student Clubs and Orgs, Mental Health & Counseling, College 101 and more.
Students who have applied for Early Action for Spring 2022 or Fall 2022 will have the added benefit of receiving their admission and merit scholarship decision at the event. This notification is two weeks ahead of when other applicants will receive their decisions. Students will have the perk of learning about top-tier scholarships and aid opportunities from their individual enrollment counselor.
The event will conclude with an opportunity for attendees to speak with enrollment counselors to learn about financial aid, the admissions process and next steps. Attendees will also have an opportunity to attend a campus tour with current student tour guides.

Information session for Master of Arts in Teaching degree
Also on Oct. 30, there will be an information session about Maryville College’s new master of arts in teaching (M.A.T.) degree with an emphasis in secondary STEM, which was just announced last month.
In the new program, graduates will earn, depending on their area of focus, an M.A.T. in one of three licensure areas: an M.A.T. in Secondary Biology, an M.A.T. in Secondary Chemistry or an M.A.T. in Secondary Mathematics. The accelerated program allows students to finish in just one year. The deadline to apply for May 2022 enrollment for the M.A.T. program is Jan. 15.
The Oct. 30 session will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Lamar Memorial Library in Thaw Hall. The event is open to Meet Maryville guests, as well as outside guests who are interested in learning more about the program. Other opportunities to visit announced
One other Meet Maryville event is scheduled for this academic year: Sat., Nov. 30 (note: this event will be virtual). For students and family members who cannot attend a Meet Maryville, Bowman said her office offers several other options to visit campus.
During the academic year (September through May), the Office of Admissions offers tours Monday through Friday at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. ET. Saturday tours will be offered this fall at 10:30 a.m. ET on Oct. 16; Nov. 6 and 13; and Dec. 4, 11 and 18.
“Even if they attend a Meet Maryville, we encourage students to schedule an individual visit at a later date, which can be more personalized,” Bowman said. “Visits that allow students to sit in on a class that relates to their area of interest and talk to faculty members who teach in their areas of interest really help prospective students answer that question of ‘fit’ – ‘Am I a good fit for Maryville College?’ ‘Is Maryville a good fit for me?’”
