Community members invited to attend Feb. 24 Nonprofit Fair at Maryville College

The Maryville College Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (NLA) will host its annual Nonprofit Fair on Thursday, Feb. 24, in the William Baxter Lee III Grand Foyer of the Clayton Center for the Arts.
Members of the public are invited to attend the event, which takes place from noon to 3 p.m., in order to receive information about local nonprofit missions, service and volunteer placements, internships and employment opportunities. There is no cost to attend the fair, which is being held for the first time in two years after being canceled in 2021 due to COVID-19.
“We’re very excited to gather in-person for this annual event, which is always a way to spotlight for our students and staff members, as well as the community, the ways they can live up to the motto of our founder, to ‘do good on the largest possible scale,’” said Amy Gilliland, director of community engagement at Maryville College. “The past two years have been extremely hard on many people, and these wonderful nonprofit organizations have stepped in to fill those gaps and help those individuals.
“The fair allows our students to network, explore career and internship opportunities and learn how to get engaged in our community. It’s also a great way for members of the community to learn how they can get involved and give back as well.”
The Nonprofit Fair, Gilliland added, will feature tables and information booths by dozens of organizations, including Cherokee Health Systems, United Way of Blount County, Emerald Youth Foundation and Blount Memorial Hospital, as well as a number of summer camps for children and organizations that work to provide housing and food security for underserved populations.
The fair is an annual project of the College’s Center for Community Engagement and students in the NLA, which is part of a national alliance of colleges, universities and nonprofit organizations that prepare and certify college students for professional careers in nonprofit management. Proceeds from table fees will help MC students fulfill credential requirements, including participating in the annual Nonprofit Leadership Alliance conference.
