MC’s Alpha Gamma Sigma inducts 15 students during 2022 ceremony
The Alpha Gamma Sigma name is drawn from the initials of three Greek words that translate to “Add Good Character, Knowledge and Judgement,” according to the organization’s website, and during a May 5 ceremony at Maryville College, 15 new inductees were lauded for doing just that.
The annual Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Scholarship Society induction took place in the Lamar Memorial Library on the Maryville College campus, and the scholars selected for membership from the Class of 2022 were held up as living examples of the organization’s purpose: to “encourage through scholarship and to stimulate interest in cultural pursuits among the students of the College.” In keeping with tradition, the new inductees signed their names in an Alpha Gamma Sigma membership book and were presented with cords to wear at Saturday’s Commencement.
Membership is extended to the top 10% (by GPA) of students with senior standing at the start of the spring semester who are eligible to graduate with honors. A junior of exceptional ability and scholarship may be elected into the society through a unanimous vote of the group’s active membership.
The following seniors are the College’s newest Alpha Gamma Sigma inductees:
Angela Anderton, a sociology major from Knoxville, Tennessee; Jay Barrow, a psychology (counseling) major from Maryville, Tennessee; Britton Bolton, a psychology (counseling) major from Rogersville, Tennessee; Sarah Cardall, an international studies (global) major from Clinton, Tennessee; Hailey Carmichael, a sociology major from Kodak, Tennessee; Chloe Hamlett, a writing communication major from Athens, Alabama; Kennedy Hardnett, a criminal justice major from Hixson, Tennessee; Jordan Kamikawa, a computer science major from Rockwood, Tennessee; Maddy Lindsay, a psychology (counseling) major from Fairview, Tennessee; Antonella Moscoso, an English literature major from Kodak; Makayla Nance, a double major in writing communication and theatre studies from Clinton; Rachel Neal, a biology major from Cullman, Alabama; David Steele, a double major in psychology (counseling) and theatre studies from Maryville; and Sydney O’Hara, a finance/accounting major from Louisville, Tennessee.
In addition, junior Autumn Carroll, a psychology major from Benton, Tennessee, was selected as a 2022 Alpha Gamma Sigma inductee.
