‘Meet Maryville’ gives prospective Scots an opportunity to start planning for fall 2025
Nov. 8, 2024
The 2024-25 academic year is well underway at high schools across the country, but for those students considering their higher education options, it’s time to start thinking about the next one. To help with that, the Admissions team at Maryville College wants to give aspiring college students an opportunity to “Meet Maryville” on Nov. 16.
“This is the time of year when those who want to begin college in the fall of 2025 are starting to feel pressure to make a decision and start planning — and we want to do our best to eliminate that stress,” said Kelly Massenzo, director of undergraduate admissions. “Meet Maryville is an opportunity to check out the school, look at all of the academic options, and get to know the team members in Maryville College Admissions and Financial Aid who will help get you here with as little stress as possible.”
Hosted by Maryville College’s Admissions Office, Meet Maryville will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is designed to help prospective Scots and their families explore what makes the nationally ranked College unique: providing students with a broad and well-rounded educational experience that prepares them for anything, introduces them to alumni and peers all over the globe with whom they can network and forge lifelong connections, and sets them up for success in any career they choose through dedicated on-campus organizations whose entire goal is to make sure MC graduates not only earn a degree but gain a footing in the doorways of what comes after commencement. Throughout the day, the Admissions team will be available to discuss financial aid opportunities and to guide students and parents through the application and enrollment process.
“In East Tennessee and beyond, the name Maryville College is associated with academic excellence, but Meet Maryville is a chance for interested students to see how much more there is to life and learning on our campus,” Massenzo said. “We have an exciting Athletics program for student-athletes, and students and their families will have an opportunity to watch the 6-1 football team play its final home game of the season on Honaker Field, when we’ll celebrate our senior players and cheerleaders during the game. Taking place five days after Veterans Day, halftime ceremonies will also recognize veteran students amd those vets in attendance.
“The Meet Maryville event itself will take place in the Clayton Center for the Arts, which is a crown jewel for music and theatrical performances by students in the Division of Fine Arts. All nine academic divisions will be represented for students and their parents to ask questions and find out more information, and the Academic Division and Student Life Fair will provide so much more information about all of the opportunities at Maryville College.
“From experiential learning opportunities on campus and in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park — only 20 minutes from campus! — to internships with some of the area’s most innovative companies and reputable organizations, there’s so much that Maryville College can provide, and we’re excited to share all of that information with prospective students and their family members on Nov. 16,” Massenzo added.
The Center for Global Engagement will explain how study abroad opportunities give Scots unparalleled opportunities to spend semesters overseas, and the Center for Community Engagement will explain how MC students can get involved and make a difference in the broader Maryville community, but also around the world. The MC Career Center works with regional and national companies and organizations to help graduating Scots find job placement, and MC support systems like the Academic Success Center and the Office for Disability Resources and Accessibility ensure that all students are given equal opportunities to succeed.
Those are just a few of the MC organizations that will be on hand for the fair, Massenzo added, and just another reason why Maryville College has a reputation for excellence as one of the best small, liberal arts colleges in the South.
“It’s exciting to see such a growing interest in Maryville College, and we feel that’s proof of what those of us who come to work here every day understand: That when you step foot on campus for the first time, there’s a sense of tradition, scholarship, integrity and respect at Maryville College that opens up a world of possibilities,” Massenzo said. “At Meet Maryville, attendees will get an in-depth overview of the programs of study, campus life, financial aid and scholarships and so many other things that make the College unique.”

Other opportunities to visit announced
An additional Meet Maryville Saturday will take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For students and family members who cannot attend a Meet Maryville, Massenzo said her office offers several other options to visit campus.
During the academic year (September through April), the Office of Admissions offers tours Monday through Friday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. ET. The following week, Nov. 23 t 10:30 a.m. ET, will be the final Saturday tour of the calendar year, although other tours can be arranged by appointment.
“Even if they attend a Meet Maryville, we encourage students to schedule an individual visit at a later date, which can be more personalized,” Massenzo said. “Visits that allow students to sit in on a class that relates to their area of interest and talk to faculty members who teach in their areas of interest really help prospective students answer that question of ‘fit’ — ‘Am I a good fit for Maryville College?’ ‘Is Maryville a good fit for me?’”
