Senior Lecturer in Mathematics

Background

Having taught all levels (high school and college)  and in all types of environments (public and private) for over twenty years, I  consider myself to have a broad educational background that enables me to work with students who are trying to make the transition from high school to college mathematics. My degrees in mathematics are complemented by study and research in the field of education.

Teaching Philosophy

My sincere desire is for students to develop an appreciation for mathematics. Many students graduate from high school without having had the chance to develop an understanding of mathematical concepts and thus the opportunity to apply those concepts in a meaningful way. Through purposeful instruction and the frequent incorporation of active learning in the classroom, my goal is to lead students to develop an appreciation of mathematics while establishing a foundation for developing further mathematical knowledge in subsequent coursework.

Why I love Maryville College

As a graduate of Maryville College, I believe in the mission and purpose of the college. My undergraduate degree in mathematics provided me with several opportunities upon graduation although my desire to teach led me to what I have spent many years doing. My undergraduate education at MC provided me with the foundations of knowledge that have enabled me to adapt to the ever changing world of mathematics education while also giving me the foundational knowledge necessary to pursue graduate coursework in mathematics.
