McGill Scholarship Program

Established in 2017 with a gift from the estate of Dan and Elaine McGill, the McGill Scholarship Program offers some of the most prestigious awards available to incoming freshmen and transfer students who enroll at Maryville College for the fall of 2019 and beyond.

Dan McGill PhotoDan McGill graduated from Maryville College in 1940 and went on to earn degrees from Vanderbilt and the University of Pennsylvania. Considered an authority in the pension industry, he was a longtime professor and administrator at the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania.

Honoring Dr. McGill’s impressive academic record, high standard for scholarship and numerous career achievements, the McGill Scholarship Program seeks to attract academically prepared and motivated students who desire to be leaders in the classroom, on the campus and in their communities.

McGill Scholarship and Fellowshipclick or touch to open

The Dan and Melanie Mays McGill Scholarship, named for Dr. McGill and his daughter, will be awarded to five outstanding incoming freshmen each year. The scholarship covers tuition and is renewable for up to four years of full-time study with an annual GPA of 3.5.

McGill Fellowships recognize the academic accomplishments and leadership abilities of 20 incoming freshmen. Valued at $4,000 each year, the Fellowships are awarded in addition to the Presidential Scholarship and are renewable for up to four years of full-time study with an annual GPA of 3.25. McGill Fellows are selected from the McGill Scholarship applicant pool.

Recipients of the McGill Scholarship and McGill Fellowship are required to live on campus and participate in a living-learning community of other Scholars and Fellows for at least two years. They also must commit to four semesters of service as an Academic Mentor.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Combined minimum 30+ ACT composite or 1390+ SAT (evidence-based reading & writing and math) test score
  • Minimum 3.8 high school GPA
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities

Application Process:

  • Apply and be accepted into Maryville College by Dec. 1, 2018. (Applications for admission will be available online after Aug. 1, 2018.)
  • Submit an online scholarship application, along with two teacher recommendation letters and an essay on a given topic, by Dec. 1, 2018.

Select applicants will be invited to the College’s Scholarship Weekend, when they will meet other prospective scholars and be interviewed by members of the College community. If students are unable to travel to campus for Scholarship Weekend, interviews may be conducted by video conferencing. Awards will be offered by March 15, 2019.

McGill Transfer Fellowshipsclick or touch to open

McGill Transfer Fellowships recognize the academic accomplishments and leadership abilities of students who transfer from another college or university. Valued at $2,000 each year and given to 10 students annually, McGill Transfer Fellowships are awarded in addition to other merit-based aid offered and are renewable for up to four years of full-time study with an annual GPA of 3.0. Recipients are required to live on campus and participate in a living-learning community.
Eligibility Criteria:

  • Minimum 3.5 college GPA
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities

To apply for the McGill Transfer Fellowship, students should:

  • Apply and be accepted into Maryville College by June 1, 2019.
  • Submit an online scholarship application, along with one teacher recommendation letter and an essay on a given topic, by July 15.

Select applicants will be invited to the College’s Transfer Scholars' Day in July, when they will meet other prospective students and be interviewed by members of the College community. If students are unable to travel to campus for Transfer Day, interviews may be conducted by video conferencing. Awards will be offered by July 15, 2019.
