Anne Howard, 96, of New Enterprise, PA passed away Friday, February 23rd, 2018 at Homewood Retirement Center, Martinsburg, PA. Anne was born in New York, NY on September 2, 1921, the daughter of the late Anna (Milicharek) and Martin Halabrin. She was the widow of Rev. George R. Howard, Jr. whom she married on December 25, 1943 and he passed away on May 27, 2001. Mrs. Howard was a member of the McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church in McConnellsburg, PA and was a homemaker. She is survived by sons George R. (husband of Susannah C.) Howard, III, John H. Howard, grandchildren Nathan J. Howard, Kevin M. Howard, Jessica S. Howard, Lisa A. Held, John H. Howard, Jr., Matthew M. Howard and seven great grandchildren.

Mary Ruth Hoyt

Mary Ruth Hoyt of Maryville, TN, was welcomed home by her Lord and many loved ones on January 27, after a long life of faith, learning, and service. Mary Ruth was born on August 13, 1921, to James Wells Hoyt, Sr. and Ruth Browne Hoyt in Tullahoma, TN. After graduating from Maryville High School in 1939, she went on to earn a degree in English from Maryville College in 1943. After graduation, she began a lifelong career as an Administrative Assistant for the Aluminum Company of America. She served ALCOA capably for 41 years with a broadening scope of responsibilities until her retirement in 1986. A woman who loved the diversity of world cultures, Mary Ruth became a seasoned traveler, exploring every continent except Antarctica. She delighted family, friends, and community groups with slide shows of her travels, inspiring many to their own adventures and to a deeper appreciation of art, architecture, religion, geography, and the many various expressions of the human spirit. Mary Ruth was a member of the American Association of University Women, weekly volunteer and member of Friends of the Blount County Library since 1958, previous board member of Child and Family Services, volunteer with the Community Benefit Sale at New Providence Presbyterian Church, and a member and elder of Highland Presbyterian Church since its organization in 1953. Mary Ruth is predeceased by her parents; her sister, Elizabeth Stone Hoyt; her brothers, James Wells Hoyt, Jr. and William Andes Hoyt; and her nephew, Van Tarvin Hoyt. She is lovingly remembered by her niece Lace Hoyt (John) Stevens, nephew William Andes (Susan) Hoyt, Jr., and niece, Brenda Griffin Hoyt. Mary Ruth will also be dearly remembered by her great nephews and nieces, Michael (Nicole) Hoyt, James (Sarah) and Carl (Adrienne) Stevens, and Jennifer and Christina Ruth Hoyt; and her great nieces and nephews, Langley Ruth and James Hoyt, Morgan McNeil and Elizabeth Stevens, and Ethan Simonen and Paige Stevens. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 1, at 2pm, at Highland Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Dr. Dwyn Mounger officiating. Reception following. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Highland Presbyterian Church, Blount County Friends of the Library, or the Community Benefit Sale at New Providence Presbyterian Church.

Joseph E. Huskey

Joseph “Uncle Joe” Earl Huskey, age 100, of Talbott, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020, 12 days before his 101st birthday. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners International, and the Lions Club. Uncle Joe was also a Chemical Engineer and very interested in education. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Huskey; parents, Will and Maggie Huskey; brothers, Clay Huskey of Newport, Hugh Huskey of Maryville and Troy Huskey of Texas. He is survived by his niece, Susan (Wayne) Cooper; nephew, Chris (Shelia) Huskey; and several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Graveside service 2:00 PM Sunday, November 22, 2020, at Westview Cemetery with Dr. J.W. Taylor officiating. Mr. Huskey will lie in state from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM on Saturday at Fielden Funeral Home in New Market.

Marie Scott Isaacs

Marie Scott Isaacs, age 94, of Newland passed away on November 25, 2016 at her residence. She was born May 26, 1922 in Franklin, NC a daughter of the late George D.and Minnie Cabe Scott. Marie was a teacher and Home Ec. Agent with N.C.State University Extension Services and a Home Ec. Agent with Macon and Avery Counties. She was a member of Newland Presbyterian Church. Along with her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her: husband, Mack S. Isaacs and her sisters, Virginia S. Wiggins and Dorothy S. Vick. Marie has left to cherish her memory her: Nephews, Mark Vick and Mike Isaacs; nieces, Marie Vick and Marcye Ollis; sister-in-law, Marie Isaacs.

Dr. J. Edward Kidder, Jr. (Ted) passed away November 30, 2014 after a brief illness. Dr. Kidder was born in Chikungshan (Jigongshan), China while his parents were serving on a mission from 1921-1926. He met Cordelia Dellinger at Maryville College in Tennessee, and they were married in 1944 while he was on leave from the Army. He served in Patton’s 3rd Army in WWII from 1943 through 1945. Following the war, he continued his education at New York University where he received his PhD. He took an appointment at Washington University in St. Louis, MO and was introduced to the International Christian University (ICU) in Mitaka, Japan while a Fulbright Scholar at Kyoto University. He was Professor Emeritus and served on the faculty of ICU from 1956 until retirement in 1993, specializing in Japanese archaeology and art history. He is widely recognized in the field and authored over 10 books and numerous publications. Many works have been used as references for Japanese and Asian art studies including Japan Before Buddhism, Early Japanese Art, Prehistoric Japanese Art, and Ancient Japan. From 1957 until retirement, he directed many archeological excavations throughout Japan. His work preserving Japanese pre-historic sites earned him the “Imperial Order of the Sacred Treasure” for his contribution to Japanese culture from the emperor of Japan in 1992. He also served in many administrative positions while at ICU including Director of The ICU Archaeology Research Center, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dean Of The College Of Liberal Arts. After retirement, he and Cordelia moved to Crossnore, NC where they were active in the community through “Meals on Wheels” and the Crossnore Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his brothers Paul and David Kidder and his 4 sons – David, Jonathan, Paul, Jim and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary Fugate McCall

Mary Alice Fugate McCall was born May 25, 1923, in Claiborne County, Tennessee, to the late Elisha F. Fugate and Jennie Edds Fugate. She passed away at home on April 5, 2016, from injuries sustained in a fall on February 14. Attended Maryville College and graduated from the University of Tennessee. Retired from the Blount County School System. She was a charter member of Springview Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Preceded in death by husband, Samuel G. McCall; son-in-law, William G. Hodge; sisters, Wilma F. Akers and husband, Kenneth B. Akers, Betty F. Taylor; brothers, Earl F. Fugate and Don E. Fugate; brother-in-law, Max E. Mize; step-granddaughter, Lori Laugherty. Survived by daughters, Jenny M. Headrick and Darrell, Jane M. Hodge; sons, Samuel G. McCall II and Koky, Joseph F. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, who were all precious to their Aunt Mary, and the many children that she taught at Carpenters Elementary and Binfield Elementary Schools. Special thanks to her loving caregivers, Mona Jeffries and Patty Sneed and the Blount Memorial Hospice for their care and concern. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ben Ward officiating. The interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Ruth Jones McClanahan

Ruth J. McClanahan – age 93 of Maryville was born July 10, 1914 passed away Friday, June 27, 2008 at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was an Elementary School Teacher in Knoxville City Schools for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard W. McClanahan Sr. who worked for the U.S. Post Office;infant son, Michael McClanahan; brothers Sanford and Paul Jones; sister, Hazel Jones. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert D. McClanahan and wife Candice, son Sonny McClanahan; granddaughters, Cristy and Lea; long time care givers, Deborah Garner, Lori Smith, and Janie Norden.

Bernice McClanahan McCulloch

Bernice McClanahan McCulloch passed away on October 24, 2016, at the age of 94. Bernice grew up in the Forest Hill Community and was the daughter of the late Carrie James McClanahan and the late Edgar McClanahan. In 1943, she graduated from Maryville College with a B.S. in Biology, but during World War II she worked for the US Navy as a civilian aluminum inspector at ALCOA. Following his honorable discharge from the US Navy, she married Paul McCulloch in 1944, and then began her career as a teacher in the Blount County School System. She spent most of her 30 years in the Friendsville High School Science Department and retired from Fairview Elementary. As a woman of great faith, Bernice joined Monte Vista Baptist Church in 1962 and was a dedicated member throughout the years. She is survived by: beloved daughter, Nancy McCulloch Amerine & husband Larry of Elizabethton, with whom she lived during her final years; grandchildren, Kristine Amerine Carter and husband Craig of Johnson City, Miranda McCulloch Horton and husband Kyle of Simpsonville, SC, and Lindsey McCulloch Kline and husband Aaron of Maryville; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Nicholas Carter, Lillie Ruth, Ellis & Emmeline Horton, and Alice and Lara Kline; daughter-in-law, Mary Charles McCulloch Harris; sister, Dorothy McCammon; several nieces and nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by Paul, her loving husband of 52 years; her beloved son, Randall; brother, Howard McClanahan. Bernice was a gentle woman of quiet integrity. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and friend. Mary Baker Naylor

Mrs. Naylor, born Oct. 26, 1921 in her grandmother’s house in Giles County, passed away quietly March 22, 2018 in her home in Lebanon. She moved to Lebanon from Nashville after she retired from the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools in 1985. She was a graduate of Maryville College, where she received her bachelor’s degree in high school education. She taught school at Goodlettsville High School for several years, and after she had eight wonderful children, she began to teach in the Metro Nashville Schools. She taught at Dalewood, Jere Baxter, Lockeland and Kirkpatrick Elementary schools. She taught special education classes for special needs children, and in her last two years, was principal at Lockeland and Kirkpatrick Elementary schools. Mary Ruth was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Mt. Juliet and had raised her family in Inglewood Methodist Church in Nashville. At Grace UMC, she was an active member of the Bible Seekers Class, Ruth Circle and Young at Heart. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, George W. Naylor II; two younger sisters, Doris Hayes, Esther Thompson; older brother, Buddy Baker; and grandson, George W. Naylor IV. Mary Ruth is survived by her eight children, George W. Naylor III, and his wife, Kathy, Walter Naylor, and his wife, Cinda, Steve Naylor, and his wife, Susie, Nancy King, and her husband, Bob, Linda Cagle, and her husband, Terry, Bobby Naylor, and his wife, Sharon, Bettye Naylor, Bill Naylor, and his wife, Sonya; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. Serving as active pallbearers will be her grandsons, David Naylor, Tyler Naylor, Steven Williams, Chris Williams, Rick Naylor and Brock Bates. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bible Seekers Class: Rena Bass, Randolph Wilson, S.R. Daniels, Shirley Jaskolka, Jackson Zumbro and David Devine. Jean Barnes Newcomer

Jean L. Newcomer (nee Barnes), of Madison, WI, died on May 23, 2020 at Agrace Hospice in Madison, WI. She was 99 years old. Jean was born January 28, 1921 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to Olin and May (Petersen) Barnes. She graduated from Maryville College in Maryville, TN, where she earned a BA degree in psychology. Later she did post graduate study in library science at Northern Illinois University. Upon graduation from Maryville, she moved to Illinois to become social editor of the Belvidere Daily Republican. There she met and later married Edward Newcomer. In 1950 she applied for a staff position at Ida Public Library. She served two years as reference librarian and 38 years as the library director. At her retirement she was surprised by an editorial in the Belvidere Daily Republican entitled “Give Your Regards to Jean”. In addition to her love of books she was interested in music, gardening and painting. She was co-author of two books, For the Love of Ida, a history of library services in her community and Speechless: Living with Spasmodic Dysphonia, about the vocal cord disorder she developed at the age of 15. In the latter part of her life she began painting oil landscapes and exhibited annually at area art shows. She sold most of her paintings and was pleased one year when she was runner-up for the “Best of Show” award. She has made over 600 decorative posters, using small colored squares, and posted them regularly on her apartment doors at Middleton Glen and Oakwood Assisted Living. Jean is survived by a son and daughter: Stephen Newcomer (Diane) of Burnsville, MN and Gale Barber of Middleton and two granddaughters, Amelia Barber (Matt Blango) of Jena, Germany and Maggie Barber-Hasanovic (Nedim Hasanovic) of Los Angeles, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, sister Hazel Barnes, and brother Paul Barnes. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Belvidere Cemetery in Belvidere, IL. Memorials may be made in Jean’s name to the Ida Public Library, 320, N. State Street, Belvidere, IL.

Glenn Fertig Paul

passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Gwinnett Medical Center following a brief hospital stay. Born in Lavelle, PA in 1922, Mr. Paul attended Gettysburg College (PA) for one year, and then transferred and graduated from Maryville College (TN) with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. At Maryville College he met his future wife, Evelyn Gregory, and they married following college. Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and attended Midshipman’s School at Notre Dame University. Mr. Paul served as a Second Lieutenant in the Navy during WWII, in both the Atlantic (Battle of Normandy) and Pacific theaters. Following the war, the Pauls moved to Atlanta, GA where Mr. Paul was employed by the Grinnell Company, and then accepted an accounting position at General Motor’s Fisher Body Division in Atlanta, retiring from GM in 1982. He was a longtime active member of Inman Park United Methodist Church in Atlanta, and later a member at the Snellville United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Masons. Mr. Paul was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Lewis Paul, his mother, Carrie Fertig Paul, and sister, Betty Renee Paul. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Evelyn Peeples Gregory Paul, his three children, Susan Gregory Paul Tyler, Pamela Renee Paul Bamberg, and Glenn Fertig Paul, Jr, his grandchildren Gregory Alman Duncan, Lauren Leigh Duncan Lounder, Lindsay Michelle Roberts, Nicole Roberts Miyata, Alexander Joseph Paul, and Abby Catherine Paul Miller, and great-grandchild Landon Robert Miller, and their spouses. Mr. Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who always put his family first. He was loved dearly and will be missed. Services: A memorial service will be held on Wednesday May 7, 2014: visitation with the family at 10:00 am, followed by the service at 11:00 am, at the Tom M. Wages Funeral Home at 3705 Highway 78 W, Snellville Stone Mountain Freeway in Snellville. Olson Pemberton

Peacefully and actively retired in Brazil at the age of 93, where he came from in 1947 as a Presbyterian Missionary with is first wife and a MC classmate, Jean Patterson who passed away in1996. Rev. Pemberton has family in Brazil (2 sons with their wives, 2 “grands’, 1 “grand”-in-law, and 3 great ‘grands’) and in the US (2 daughters & 1 son, all married, and 5 ‘grands’ of whom two are married). Therefore, he does a lot of travel to see the family.

Geraldine Hogan Pepper

Geraldine “Jerry” (nee Hogan) Pepper, age 91, of Harrison, Ohio died on Monday, July 1, 2013 in Lookout Mountain, GA. Jerry was born on August 7, 1921 in New Hope, TN to the late Charles and Pearl (nee Simmons) Hogan. She was married to the late Charles Pepper. They met while attending Maryville College in Maryville, TN. Charlie, Jerry and family moved to Harrison in 1953. She was a substitute teacher for the local Harrison schools for many years. Jerry was quite active in her church and loved to send cards to others as a ministry of compassion, caring and love. She is survived by her 3 sons, David Pepper of Boston, MA, Tony (Judy) Pepper of Lookout Mountain, GA and Jeff (Diane) Pepper of Boiling Springs, SC. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren; Kim (John) Morecraft, Amanda (Justin) Stokes, Rachel Pepper, Kathryn Pepper, Michael (Griffin) Pepper and Sarah Pepper and by 4 great-grandchildren; Izalou, Asa, Clara Hope and John Henry Morecraft. She was predeceased by her spouse, Charles Pepper and eldest son, Michael Pepper.

Theodore B. Pratt

Dr. Theodore (Ted) Beeks Pratt, 99, passed on July 14, 2021, in Ft. Collins, CO. He was born August 13, 1921, third child of Rev. and Mrs. A. Alden Pratt in Pasadena, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Helen Tapp, brother James Alden Pratt, first wife Marion Hart Pratt, and second wife Sheila Clark Pratt. He is survived by his three daughters, Jennifer French, Melinda Swenson, and Kathleen Rautenstraus and spouses; as well as grandchildren Michael Maestas, Laura Simpkinson, Audrey Swenson, and Melody Rautenstraus and their families, nieces and nephews, Sheila’s family, and a worldwide collection of friends. A Celebration of Life service is scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Mountain Time Zone, on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1709 West Elizabeth Street in Ft. Collins. A reception will follow immediately after the service at the church. The service will be livestreamed. On the day of the service, go to vesseyfuneralservice.com. Ted’s obituary will include a link to the livestream. Ted remarked that witnessing nearly 100 years of life was an incredible blessing. He often shared that his family, faith, and friends were central in his life. He grew up in Ohio and lived in ten states. He worked in publications, information, and editing most of his life – both in educational and religious settings, including an Information Officer for the World Council of Churches in Geneva, Switzerland, traveling through western Europe and reporting through stories and photos how Protestants in America were helping Europe’s ten million refugees. Ted earned his BA from Maryville College (TN), an MA from Ohio State, and a PhD from Syracuse (NY) University. He moved to Ft. Collins in 2003 after 13 years of happy retirement in Black Mountain, NC. He had a keen interest in a variety of pursuits: travel (most of Western Europe, a bit of Russia, Kenya, Scandinavia, Mexico, and Canada), photography, sports, music, the great outdoors, and intentional Christian communities in the USA and Europe. He was involved in peacemaking as a member of Veterans for Peace after serving as an infantry combat officer in WWII in Europe, as well as interfaith efforts. He was active at Westminster Presbyterian Church and at the Senior Center where he swam regularly and participated in many programs. In 2016 he went to Washington DC on the Northern Colorado Veterans Honor Flight. Ted/Dad/Grandad was known to his family for his impish grin which raised his bushy eyebrows, and the multi-colored tam hats that always stylishly matched his attire. He loved trying out new restaurants and sharing desserts, sometimes pretending to stab a dinner companion with a fork to get the last bite! A relentless chronicler of life, he leaves behind over 100 scrapbooks about his adventures spanning the century. He seldom complained, even in the last couple of years, which presented several health challenges. He was greatly loved and will be missed. And Ted would want everyone to know that he will miss them, too. Mr. David Rees-Jones was born in Trefor near Llangollen, Denbighshire, North Wales and served as a missionary to India, as a chaplain with the British Army in World War I in Mesopotamia and as a Presbyterian minister with pastorates in Oklahoma and Texas. Mary Edith Holmes was born in Bebington, Cheshire, England and served as a secretary on the staff of Lord Leverhulme in Port Sunlight, England. After their marriage in 1920 at Christ Church in Port Sunlight, they came to the United States. Trevor was reared in Weatherford, Texas, moved to Dallas in 1936, graduated from Forest Avenue High School in 1939, and received his BA from SMU in absentia in 1943. From 1943 to mid-1946, he served as a Pacific Fleet destroyer officer under Comdrs. Robert H. Holmes and Everett G. Sanderson, his most exhilarating duty being aboard the USS MONSSEN (DD 798). Upon his return he and Billye June Kay of Dallas married and moved to Austin, where he received his LLB from Texas Law School in 1948. Returning to Dallas, he served as an Assistant District Attorney under Will Wilson from February 1949 to June 1950 when he joined Turner, White, Atwood, McLane, and Francis. In 1954 he received his LLM in Oil and Gas Law from SMU. In 1963 he joined Locke, Purnell, Boren, Laney and Neely (now Locke Liddell & Sapp) and, having retired from active practice in 1990, was of counsel to such firm at the time of his death. Trevor was a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Dallas Bar Association, a Senior Life Fellow of the Dallas Bar foundation, and a former member of the Southwestern Legal Foundation (Chairman of the Oil and Gas division in 1965). He was a member, deacon, and elder of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, and a past president of the Westminster Couples Class. At various times he was a member of the Dervish Club, Idlewild, the Dallas Athletic Club, and the Chaparral Club. Trevor’s civic endeavors included service as a member of the Highland Park ISD Board of Trustees from 1967 to 1980, participation in the Park Cities-North Dallas YMCA Indian Guides program, and 25 years with Boy Scout Troup 70 in various capacities – committeeman, Citizenship Merit badge counselor, and a co-chairman with his wife, Billy June, and secretary, Margie Cotton, of the Christmas greenery sales, which enabled the troop to attend all National Jamborees. Trevor is a life member of the SMU and Texas Alumni Associations and the US Naval Institute. In 1995-96 he was President of the Park Cities Historical Society. He also served on various committees of the City of University Park, including the Finance, Zoning Advisory, Legislative, and Employee Benefits committees and as a director and officer of the Texas Higher Education Authority and the Southwest Higher Education Authority. Aside from his family and law practice, Trevor enjoyed most of all deer and dove hunting with close friends and his sons, handball, genealogical studies, photography, travels with his wife, and just living. Trevor was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Billye June. Survivors are his son Trevor David, his wife Jan and their children, Trevor Richard and David Garrett, of Dallas; his son, Robert Winston, his wife Patricia and their children, Alexander, Ashley and Victoria of Parker, Colorado; and his daughter Valerie and her children, Stephanie, Christopher and Oliver of Dallas. Also surviving Trevor are his sister, Gwendolen, and her husband, the Rev. Mr. John Shell of Conway, Arkansas, their children and grandchildren, and numerous cousins in Aberystwyth, Oxford and North Wales. After a private burial service at Restland Memorial Park, a memorial service celebrating Trevor’s life will be held at Highland Park Presbyterian Church at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, with Rev. L. Nelson Bell and Dr. Bill Edwards officiating. Carolyn Barbour Regner

Carolyn Barbour Regner, of Madison, and formerly of Oshkosh, died peacefully in her sleep at Attic Angel Place on Thursday, July 13, 2006, at age 84. She was born on Nov. 22, 1921, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the daughter of Robert J. and Margaret (Schwartz) Barbour. Carol served proudly as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and continued in the Navy reserves until 1950. She met her husband, William H. Regner, also a Navy lieutenant, during the war. Carol and Bill were married on May 19, 1945, in Cape May, N.J. Following the war, they moved to Oshkosh, where Bill practiced law, and together they raised seven children. Carol was a silversmith for many years, and enjoyed exhibiting at art shows and teaching jewelry making at the local museum. She earned bachelor’s degrees in 1972 and 1974, and her master’s degree in business administration in 1976 at UW-Oshkosh. Carol had a gift for math, and designed and taught some of the earliest programming classes as an undergraduate/master’s candidate teaching assistant. She worked at Kimberly-Clark in Neenah as a programmer until receiving her MBA, and returned to UW-Oshkosh as an instructor in business and data processing until her retirement. Carol’s adventurous spirit continued into retirement, and she spent time camping, designing jewelry, playing bridge, solving math and crossword puzzles, and visiting her children. She had a flair for the flamboyant, and we will certainly never forget her colorful hats and clothing, and her unique jewelry! Carol is survived by her children; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert “Perry” (Janet) Barbour of Leesburg, Fla. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in 1974; her parents; and infant children, Timothy, Jock, and a baby boy. Visitation will be held in the chapel at LAKEVIEW MEMORIAL PARK, 2786 Algoma Blvd., Oshkosh, on Saturday, July 22, 2006, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. followed by a short service. Carol will be buried with full military honors at Lakeview Memorial Park following the service.

Mary Jane Costner Ribble passed away on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at the age of 92. Mary Jane was a native of Maryville. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 70 years, George W. Ribble. Mary Jane is survived by her loving children, Carolyn and Stan Barnwell of Atlanta, Ga., George and Melanie Ribble of Weatherford, Texas; grandchildren, Alison, Colleen, Jonathan, Sarah and Lesley. She had four great-grandchildren.

Rock, Walter L. “Les” Portage Passed away Monday morning, January 4, 2016. Les was born April 25, 1921 in Blue Island, IL the son of Walter J. and Henrietta (Henning) Rock. He was a resident in the Benton Harbor area before moving to Portage in 1997. Les was a veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Prior to his retirement in the 1970’s he was a teacher for 30 years in the Benton Harbor Schools. Les enjoyed volunteering at the Crossroads Village, reading, fishing, playing golf, and spending time at the family cottage that he built in Ontario, Canada. On June 19, 1944 he was united in marriage to his loving wife of 72 years, the former Betty Parker, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Roxanne Rock (Edward Green), Russell Rock (Jeanne Centuori), Roger (Sally) Rock, Ruthanne Longeway; 7 grandchildren, Eric, Erin, Tracy, Rafael, Kendall, Angela, Leslie; several great-grandchildren, which include Reality and Stone Rojas; several great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Les was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Alan Rock. A memorial service to celebrate Les’ life will held at 2:00pm Saturday, January 9 at the Crossroads Village, 6600 Constitution Blvd, Portage, MI. Interment will be held at a later date in Ft. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 69 years, Barbara, three children (Virginia, Mary Lee, Doug, Jr.), five grandchildren (Tommy, Susan, Drew, Ben, Will), 14 great-grandchildren, and two sisters (Marian and Laura). He served as a Navy lieutenant in World War II and worked for Sears & Roebuck for over 30 years. He was an avid Florida Gator fan. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday December 31, 2014, at the Southside Chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S. with Rev. Clayton Turner officiating.
