Barbara Buchanan Timbie

Barbara B Timbie, 91, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2015, in Newtown. PA. She was born in Washington, D.C. and had been a resident of Pennington from 1967 to 2012, when she moved to Chandler Hall. For nearly 40 years, Barbara could be seen walking one of her black dogs through Pennington. It is calculated she covered nearly 87,000 miles. Wife of the late Donald N. Tlmbie, Sr., she is survived by her four sons: Donald N. Timbie and his wife Darlene, Douglas J. Timbie and his wife, Marcia, Bruce Timbie and Mark Timbie and his wife Loy and two daughters: Barbara L. Click and her husband, Doug, and Mary A. Kawand and her husband, John. She is also survived by her brother, David Buchanan and his wife Linda. She had six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held Saturday, May 30, at 11:00 a.m. in Harbourton Cemetery, 1516 Harbourton Rocktown Road, Lambertville,08530. Arrangements are by the Blackwell Memorial Home. Anne Kerr Valentine

Anne Marie Kerr Valentine, July 5, 1924 – June 28, 2016 Heaven rejoiced as it welcomed a new saint on June 28, 2016. Anne Valentine, 91, is survived by her faithful husband, Bill of 66 years; her children: Nancy McDaniel & husband Don Lawrenceville, GA, Bill Valentine and wife ElizaBeth Lawrenceville, GA, daughter-in-law, Janie Valentine Duluth, GA ; 11 exceptional grandchildren: David (Brandie) McDaniel Dacula, GA, Evan (Jaime) Valentine VA, Laura McDaniel (Mike) Lee WA, Trevor (Emily) Valentine The Netherlands, Robert Valentine IL, Brian (Megan) McDaniel Bishop, GA, Michael (Megan) Valentine CA, Billy Valentine Lawrenceville, GA, Rebecca Valentine (Chris) Aikens Watkinsville, GA, Sean Valentine Duluth, GA, Matt Valentine (fiancé Jacqueline) Suwanee, GA; and 7 delightful great grandchildren: Austin, Cierra & Everett McDaniel Dacula, GA, Stephen, Henry & Charlotte Valentine VA, Declan McDaniel Bishop, GA. She was predeceased by her parents Marie & Harry Kerr, sister, Grace Kerr Valentine, brother, Dr. David Kerr and beloved son, John C. Valentine. Anne was born in Suffern, NY and was a graduate of Maryville College (TN) and did graduate work at New York Teachers College. Early on she worked as a teacher but devoted her life to serving others. She chose to be a stay at home mom and was very involved with volunteer activities with the Baptist church. She accepted Jesus as her Lord & Savior in her mid-20s and never wavered from her love and service to God. She was a loving wife, incredible mother, involved grandmother, doting great grandmother, an ardent encourager, faithful prayer warrior and friend to all who knew her. Nanny taught several of her grandchildren to read and was instrumental in leading some of them and many others to the Lord. She lived a long, full life, loving her family and her Lord.

Eleanor Boyles Webb

Eleanor B. (“Kris”) Webb, 93, died Saturday, February 13, 2016, at a local hospital after a brief illness. Kris was born August 10, 1922, in Ericson, NE, to Harry J. and Olive C. Boyles. She and her family moved to Florida in the spring of 1926, and lived in Penny Farms for 5 years before relocating to Live Oak. Kris graduated from Suwanee High School at age 16, as Valedictorian of her class. She worked for 2 years before attending Maryville College and Florida State College for Women, graduating in 1945 and moving to Punta Gorda. She was a Home Economics teacher and English teacher, and later became Dean of Women at Charlotte High School. She spent the last 9 years of her 39 year career as Director of Food Service for the Charlotte County School System before retiring in 1987. In 2015, she was recognized by The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a society for women educators, for being a member for 60 years. She was an active member of the Charlotte County Retired Educators Association for a number of years. She was a long time member of First United Methodist Church and was treasurer for the United Christian Women as well as the Barb Bryant Circle for many years. Kris enjoyed fishing, boating and in her younger years, hunting with her husband and sons. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Sankey E. Webb, Jr. She is survived by her sons, Sankey E. “Eddie” (Ellen) Webb, III and H. Orrin (Cindy) Webb of Punta Gorda; granddaughters Leigh (Jason) Erickson of Marietta, GA, Hilary (Dusty) Holley of Auburndale, and Haley Webb of Punta Gorda; great granddaughters Ellie and Anna Erickson and great grandson Webb Holley.

Mable Marshall Westbrook

Mable Ruth Marshall Westbrook, age 92, of Lenoir City, passed away Sunday morning, July 24, 2016. She was the first woman to graduate from Maryville College with a degree in chemistry. Mable was state president of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. She was First Lady of Loudon County. Mable was owner and operator of Marbrook Frames and Gallery in Lenoir City. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Albert Westbrook; son, Edwin Marshall Westbrook; and parents, Rev. Thomas Oliver Marshall and Beulah Gay Watkins Marshall. Survived by her beloved daughter-in-law, Janice Westbrook Smith and husband, Cecil (Bucky) Smith; daughter, Judye Westbrook James; sister, Carolyn Marshall Bender husband, Joe Bender; grandchildren, Laura James Higdon and husband, John Higdon, and Jenni James; great-grandchildren, Eric Higdon, Frances Higdon, Charlie Higdon, Taylor Welk, and Brooks Welk; nephew, Dr. Michael Bender and wife, Martha Bender; nieces, Lise Bender and Joanna Bender; great-nephew, Adam Bender and great-niece, Angela Bender; and children by heart, Joe Trout and Steve Gillman. The family received friends on Wednesday, July 27th at Central United Methodist Church in Lenoir City. A celebration of her life followed with Rev. Micah Nicolaus officiating. Elizabeth Helton Wheeler

Elizabeth H. Wheeler age 96 of Maryville passed away Thursday, March 12, 2020, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church for 69 years. Elizabeth taught high school in Blount County for 30 years. She was an avid hiker for over 30 years. Preceded in death by: Husband, Enoch Wheeler; Sisters, Mary Ann Hood, Maxine Conley, Ethel Kissel; Brother, Russell Helton, Jr.; Son-in-law, Harold Pitcher. Survivors include: Son & Daughter-in-law, David & Pam Wheeler; Daughters & Son-in-law, Rebecca Pitcher, Letha & Allan Hancock; Grandchildren, Ethan Wheeler, Erin Burket & husband Derek, Michael Hancock & wife Chelsea, Katie Coyle & husband Samuel, and Joseph Hancock; Six Great-Grandchildren; Sister, Josephine Edwards. Trevor G. Williams

Trevor George Williams, MD, 95, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, January 31, 2020 at Novant Health Medical Center in Salisbury. Dr. Williams was born in Stirling, New Jersey, on April 9, 1924 to Rev. George Owen Williams and Edith Kiss Williams, who were English immigrants. Dr. Williams attended a two-room school through the early grades and later finished high school in Flemington, NJ. He attended Maryville College in Maryville, TN, for 2 years before enlisting in the Navy College Training Program at Carson Newman College in Morristown, TN. Through that program, he entered the University of Georgia School of Medicine, in Augusta, GA. After his second year, he married Miss Jean Messer. Following graduation, he enrolled in an internship at Jersey City Medical Center, New Jersey. After one year, he was activated in Navy training as a photo fluoroscopic officer for tuberculosis elimination in Navy personnel. He also served in the Dispensary for Navy personnel and civilian family members. After discharge from the Navy, he went to Park View Hospital in Rocky Mount, NC, to complete his medical training in a surgical residency and obtained his license to practice in North Carolina. With the help of his father-in-law, he bought a medical practice in Forest City, NC. After the Korean Armistice, there was an active recall of physicians, and Dr. Williams reported to duty and trained as a Naval flight officer. He was attached to a Marine unit and stationed on the east coast. Upon release, he returned to his medical practice in Forest City. After 10 years of private practice, Dr. Williams obtained a position as a Psychiatric resident, and studied under Dr. Eugene McCraney, Department of Psychiatry, University of Georgia School of Medicine. After the three-year program, Dr. Williams returned to Rutherford County, NC, and opened a mental health center. He was subsequently made Western Regional Director of North Carolina Mental Health; later, the Director of Broughton Hospital in Morganton, NC, was added to his job description. A sudden shift in politics and drop in state funding led him to the Mental Health Center in Salisbury, NC. Following his retirement from the Mental Health Center in Salisbury, he worked part-time in the Mental Health Center in Statesville, NC, until his total retirement at the end of 1999. While he was in Salisbury, Dr. Williams took up wood-carving and gave many of his carvings to family members, First Presbyterian Church, Hood Seminary, and others. He enjoyed dancing with Jean, reading, teaching, Kiwanis, group studies, and traveling with Gail. Following the death of his wife of 62 years and while living at Trinity Oaks, he met his second wife Dr. Gail Hounshell, at First Presbyterian Church in Salisbury, where they both were members. She joined him at Trinity Oaks and they enjoyed a happy marriage of eight years. In addition to Dr. Gail Hounshell, Dr. Williams is survived by his 3 children Mrs. Eugenia W. Peskoe, Mr. Robert T. Williams (Zan), and Mrs. Deborah W. Messinger (Dwight); 7 grandchildren Brad, Amy, Sarah, Clay, Curt, Trevor, and John; and 7 great-grandchildren Avery, Emerson, Eleanor, Anna Claire, Catherine, George, and Henry. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gwyn Williams McKee and son-in-law, Dr. Stanley Peskoe A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 3, 2020 at First Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow in Lewis Hall. There will be a private inurnment. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 308 West Fisher Street, Salisbury, NC 27014 or Hood Theological Seminary, 1810 Lutheran Synod Drive, Salisbury, NC 28144.
