Huntsville, Ala. – Head Coach Roy Heintz and the UAH women’s basketball program announced the hiring of Amber Lee to be the team’s next assistant coach. Lee comes to the Rocket City after spending three seasons as an assistant at Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn. “I’m very excited to have Amber Lee join my staff,” said Heintz. “She is a rising star in this profession ” with a great basketball IQ at such a young age, a hunger to learn more, a strong teacher on the floor, and an incredibly hard worker in everything she does.” Lee was a four-sport athlete in high school – she participated in basketball, golf, softball and track – before she played basketball for the Scots. After graduating in 2009, Lee served as an assistant at Berry College and returned to Maryville as a member of the coaching staff the following season, and the Scots were quite successful during the next three seasons, employing a system similar to that of the Lady Chargers. “She comes to us from a championship program that was 66-17 over the past three seasons and from an offensive system that is nearly identical to the system we’ve used,” stated Heintz. “Her great personality has made her a talented proven recruiter, and her teaching and hard work has brought her success on the basketball court.” In addition to her duties as the assistant women’s basketball coach, Lee also served as a game event manager for football, soccer and volleyball.

Kristie Lee just has been accepted into the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Masters of Science in Social Work program for the fall 2018.

Jeffrey Wayne Lee, 57, died suddenly in Swan Quarter, NC, Thursday morning, August 2, 2018 of a heart attack. He lived in Germanton with his wife, Mary, and three of their children but was looking forward to a new school year teaching art and coaching baseball and football in Hyde County, his dream-job. Jeff was an avid runner and enjoyed adventure. He was a wide receiver at The University of Tennessee, and after college was an Army Ranger. He also worked as a newspaper reporter, editor, and sports writer. Although he valued physical and intellectual challenge, he loved God and gentleness, and modeled humility, compassion, and selflessness. He knew how to love lavishly and was a devoted father. His friends and family found pure joy in his talent for games, words, writing, music, cooking, teaching, baseball, fine art, fishing, and fun. He often made others laugh. Jeff was born July 25, 1961 in Blount County, TN to Ralph and Joyce Irwin Lee of Maryville. He was married to Mary Hughes in 1986 and was father to Georgia, Sid, Jack, and Kathryn Lee. His life was full of joy, although he knew sorrow, especially at the recent death of his son, Sid. Besides his wife and 3 children, he is survived by his mother, Joyce Lee of Maryville, TN; a brother, Mitchell Lee (Patricia) of South Carolina; a sister, Janet Alexander (Roger) of Maryville, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves behind grieving in-laws.

Robert J. Leech, 90, passed away on the morning of August 3, 2023, from congestive heart failure. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Ann P. Leech, in 2013 and is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law (Andrew, Mark, and Murlene Leech of Virginia Beach) and three granddaughters (Rebecca Leech of Harrisburg, PA; Rachel Leech of Pittsburgh, PA; and Sarah Leech of Fort Smith, AR). Bob was born and raised in Pittsburgh and had a lengthy career as a naval officer. He loved British mysteries; was a voracious reader of Christian theology and European history; and enjoyed his travels to Italy, Greece, and Israel. He was a long-time and much-loved member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach.

Mr. Harvey "Eugene" Lehman, passed away at Carolina Meadows on Tuesday, December 18, 2018. A graveside service was held on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Lake View Memorial Park in Greensboro.

Dr. William C. LeNoir, Dean Emeritus of the School of Science at Columbus (GA) State University was born September 22, 1929 and passed on August 01, 2016 . Bill was born and raised in Loudon, Tennessee and attended Loudon High School, where he later taught after graduating from Maryville College. He then went to the University of Georgia for his doctorate and began a 34-year teaching career as a professor of botany at Columbus College. His colleagues enthusiastically encouraged his consideration for a progression of leadership roles-from the department level to the deanship, and including stints as both acting vice president and acting president of the college. After his retirement in 1995, the new science building was named in his honor. In retirement, Bill returned to his family farm in Monroe County, where he remained active as both a farmer and an advocate for local environmental and historical initiatives. He served as president of the Fork Creek Association, was a founding member of the WATeR Association, served on the board of directors for both WATeR and Monroe County Beautiful, served as treasurer of the Steekee Cemetery Foundation, and was an active member of Loudon United Methodist Church. Bill was also a devoted family man-son, husband, father, brother, friend. He possessed a contemplative, balanced life. His was a thoughtful and nurturing soul-as a horticulturalist, parent, craftsman, mentor, and educator. His life lives on in all of those who loved him, and for this we are blessed. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Jane Grimm LeNoir; children and spouses, Kathy LeNoir and Ted Woleslagle, GA; David and Michele LeNoir, KY; Mollie and John May, Loudon; granddaughter, Mia LeNoir, Nashville; sister and brother-in-law, Harriette LeNoir Buchanan and Bob Buchanan, Loudon; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and Ed Leventen, CA; and a bushel of cousins, nieces and nephews. A service to honor and remember Bill was held at 3 PM Saturday, August 6th in the Loudon United Methodist Church with Rev. Walt Simmerman officiating. writes in to share that her latest literary adventure is the newly released publication for the Friends of Blount County Library entitled “Foothills Voices.” This book features 12 writers and their creative non-fiction stories about a person, place, or event in E. Tennessee. Her story, “Call Me Isabella,” tells of the murder of her great-great-Uncle at the hands of his wife in 1893. Being of the Quaker faith, no judicial justice was ever sought as the matter was left up to God. After enrolling in a playwright course at M.C., she wrote a play, in conjunction with Alcoa Historian Shirley Carr Clowney ’58 and field work gathered by students of MC sociology professor Susan Ambler, about the black community working at Alcoa Aluminum plant. That play, “Voices of the Valley: Black Voices of a Company Town Called Alcoa, Tennessee,” will be performed at several local venues as part of the Alcoa Centennial Celebration in 2019.

Donald William Leo, Sr., 80, formerly of Coram, New York, unexpectedly passed away after surgery, surrounded by his family on February 13, 2022, at home in Lenoir City, TN. Donald was born in Queens, NYC on May 17, 1941, to the late Donald Chrisman Leo and the late Georgina James Leo.
Donald graduated from Maryville College in 1962 and earned a master’s degree in History from Appalachian State University in North Carolina. After his Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from Fordham Law University in Manhattan, he opened his law practice in Suffolk County, NY. Politics was a love, and he became the Brookhaven Town Conservative Leader and served as campaign manager for several Congressional seats until his retirement in 2004 when he moved to Tennessee.
As a resident of the Pines on Fire Island he loved to unwind on the beach. He also loved old classic movies and was a founding member of the International Sons of the Desert, devoted to the study and celebration of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. He especially enjoyed introducing grandson Sam to his favorite “funnies.”
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Joyce Williams Leo, whom he met in the Debate Club at Maryville College; and son Donald William Leo, Jr. (Monica Leo) of Coram, New York; and daughter Diane Leo Menorca (Douglas Menorca) of Washington, D.C. and grandson Samuel Leo Menorca. Donald also served as Guardian of George King of Selden, NY and made him a part of the family.

89 of Augusta, Georgia, died Thursday night, June 26, 2014. He was born August 7, 1924 in Staunton, VA to the late Sherman Neal and Mamie Livik Lester and was also preceded in death by his wife Rosemary Gambill Lester, a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Carl Wiggins. He served as a Deacon and Elder of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church in Augusta, GA. He grew up in Jacksonville, FL., served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII , and graduated from Maryville College in Tennessee in 1951 where he met his wife Rosemary Gambill who he married that fall. He worked for Bell South, now AT&T for 40 years until his retirement. He was a devoted Florida Gator fan, enjoyed golf, and fishing. In 1955 he helped the Augusta National Club set up a score reporting system and served as a Masters Tournament Official 46 years overseeing the Scorers. He also enjoyed officiating high school football games. He is survived by a devoted wife of 23 years, Lois Lester of Augusta, two sons, Tom (Edith) and Lee Lester both of Chattanooga, a step-daughter, Anne Cornelison, N.J.; a step-son, Paul Cornelison (Beth) of Lousianna; two granddaughters, Margaret and Catie Lester; a step-grandson, Jeffery Cornelison; and nephew Robert Wiggins (family) FL. A memorial service will be conducted at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, Augusta, GA at 11:00 am, Monday, June 30. A graveside service will be conducted, at 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Mt. Harmony Cemetery in Niota, TN. with Rev. Les Rust officiating.

John H. Lewis, 91, resident of Willow Valley Communities, Willow Street, PA, passed away on Monday November 15, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Trenton, NJ, he was the son of the late Lester and Helen Lewis was the loving husband of Jean Lewis since 1955, celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary this year.

He received his BS in Criminology from Fresno State University. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserves in 1948 and was later called up to active duty and served aboard the U.S.S. Bradford (DD-545) as Signalman/Quartermaster Seaman during the Korean War. He returned to the U.S. to begin Officer Candidate School and was later commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy Reserves and then assigned to Naval Investigative Services Pearl Harbor, HI. His Naval reserve career would span 20 years and his last assignment was to serve on the Naval Reserve Pistol team. He retired as a Lieutenant.

In his professional career, he was Vice President of Johnson & Higgins Insurance in New Orleans, LA and retired as CEO of Medical Indemnity CO-OP, Anchorage, AK.

John was an active member of the communities he lived in, serving as past President of the National Director of Navy League USA, past Board Member of the New Orleans Symphony, Anchorage Concert Assoc. Board Member, Alaska Sportfishing Assoc. Member, Alaska Light Opera Member, Fleet Reserve Assoc. Member, past Member of the North Pacific Fisheries Council Advisory Board, Member of the Eagle Scout Association, lifetime Member of the National Rifle Association, Member of the Lamberton Lodge No. 476, Lancaster, PA, Member of the Zembo  Shrine, Harrisburg, PA, and Member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Harrisburg, A.A.S.R.

John is survived by his two sons: Michael Lewis, husband of Kristine, and Patrick Lewis, husband of Cynthia. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Motheral.

Beth (Fowler) Lewis and husband Tom welcomed their third daughter, Hailey Christine, on June 16, 2021. Big sisters Amy and Kate were excited to have another sister join the family!

a history major from the class of 2003, is moving on to a job at the Federal Reserve. He has been legislative director for Senator Jay Rockefeller, who is retiring. So in December 2014 he will be a Capitol Hill liaison to the Federal Reserve’s legislative affairs office.

Mark Libell ’03 has been named Legislative Director for Alabama Senator-elect Doug Jones. Libell is a native of Florence. He is a graduate of Maryville College and received his JD from the University of Alabama School of Law and a Tax LLM from Georgetown University Law Center. Mark previously served as Legislative Director to Senator John D. Rockefeller IV of West Virginia. Since Senator Rockefeller’s retirement in 2014, Mark has been Assistant Congressional Liaison at the Federal Reserve Board. He has also worked for Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan, and Representatives Bart Gordon of Tennessee and Linda Sanchez of California.

Leola Halsey Blackwood Lightowler passed away peacefully on June 8, 2015. After graduating from MC in 1936 she continued her studies at Tennent College of Christian Education at Princeton Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, receiving her second Bachelors Degree and Certificate in Religious Education in 1937. She worked as a Director of Religious Education at a Presbyterian church in White Plains, NY before her marriage to Melville Blackwood in 1941. She and her husband moved from Connecticut to New Hampshire in 1964, where Leola received her Certificate in Public School Education at Plymouth State College in 1969. She taught third grade at Central School, Sanbornton, NH for ten years, receiving her Masters Degree in Education during this time in 1973. Leola and her husband Melville were active in the Sanbornton Historical Society. After Melville’s death in 1987 Leola continued her community activities, chairing a Historical Society Committee to place a Veterans Memorial at the Town Square in 1999. She also led a hospital sponsored senor citizens exercise group during her retirement years. She was well known and will be remembered with affection by the residents of Sanbornton. In 2003, following the death of her second husband, Joseph Lightowler, Leola moved to Walnut Creek, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area, to live with her daughter Barbara Blake. On May 18, a few weeks before her death, she had celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by her daughter, two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. Another granddaughter and two great-grandchildren live in Ft. Myers, Florida. Survived by two daughters, Barbara Blake of Walnut Creek, CA, and Patricia Blackwood of New Hampton, NH, three granddaughers, and six great-grandchildren. A son, William Blackwood ’68 deceased in June 2013.

a lawyer in the New Hope and Doylestown areas for more than 50 years, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at his home in Solebury. He was 87.

Lindsay grew up in Northeast Pennsylvania, spending most of his childhood in Honsdale Pa. After attending Maryville College in Maryville Tennessee, he moved to Camden New Jersey where he worked as an insurance adjuster and attended law school at night at Rutgers University. After graduation Lindsay was drafted into the Army and spent 18 months in Germany during the Allied occupation following World War II.

Upon returning to the states Lindsay settled in Doylestown, Pa and became a member of the Doylestown Bar. He opened his law offices in New Hope shortly thereafter and spent the rest of his career there.

Lindsay was a prominent figure in town for decades. He was one of the founders of the New Hope Historical Society and was involved, as an attorney, in many of the building projects in the area. There's hardly a property in the borough that he didn't help an owner sell, rezone, get permission to renovate or subdivide at some point. His knowledge of the New Hope Zoning Ordinance was nearly encyclopedic.

More importantly, he was a part of the fabric of town. He could always be seen walking, with his signature crew cut, up and down main street, talking to everyone and telling stories. His sense of humor, his intellect, and his strong ideals will be missed by many.

He is survived by his partner of 15 years, Carol Corbett, his three children, Christine Lindsay Farley, Anne Lindsay Thornton, and CL Lindsay III, his three grandchildren, Helen and Karen Thornton and Jack Farley and his good friend and caretaker for the past two years, Margarida Faia. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Kinnamon Lindsay in 1997.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to Maryville College, 502 East Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804. A graveside service was held at Trinity Episcopal Church Saturday, January 17, at 2 pm.

Troye Lee Moore Linginfelter, age 96, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at Fairpark Nursing Home. She was wife of the late Edd Linginfelter of Alcoa. She is survived by son Steve Linginfelter and wife Brenda, grandsons Bryan and fiance’ Jeana, Scott and wife Christa, and Will and wife Melanie. She had 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was a graduate of Polk County High School and Maryville College, and was a long-time teacher in the Alcoa school system as well as in Polk County. Troye was a member of Central Baptist Church in Alcoa.

Mildred (Sue) Littleton, age 78, of Knoxville, formerly of Sweetwater passed away early Thursday morning, May 14, 2015. She was of the Methodist faith. Sue was a graduate of Maryville College. In 1961, she married Sam G. Littleton. She taught high school Art and English in Knoxville, Memphis, TN, and Jacksonville, FL. Sue also owned Brentwood Advertising Agency and later became a state probation officer.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Sam G. Littleton; and parents, Clarence and Mary Agnes Browder. Survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Amber Littleton, of Knoxville; daughter, Mary Littleton, of Nashville; granddaughter, Olivia Grace McClain; brother, Clarence Browder; niece, Pat Browder, both of Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law, Norma Littleton McCarroll; nephew, Jack McCarroll and wife, Lisa, and their children, all of Memphis.

age 83 of Townsend, died Saturday, October 6, 2001at Asbury Acres Nursing Home, following a long illness. Hugh was born and raised in Mohawk,Tennessee and moved to Blount County where he worked for 43 years as a millwright for the Aluminum Company of America. Hugh served his country proudly during World War II in the Third Army under General Patton with a tour of duty in Germany. He was recognized with several medals and awards of merit during this service. As a veteran, Hugh was reluctant to speak of his military experiences but shared with his grandchildren his first visit to a big city and seeing the Statue of Liberty from the deck of the ship as he left for Germany, and then seeing her again in a different light when he returned to stateside. Hugh was an avid gardener, loved to grow flowers, and crafted hand-carved miniature log cabins and churches from pieces of cedar. As a father raising boys, he spent time in the hills of his beloved East Tennessee, teaching his sons to hunt and to fish and to respect the land. He loved all types of music and could play the guitar and mandolin by ear. He was a member of Alcoa First Baptist, but upon moving to Townsend, attended Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Orpha Jarrells and Samuel Benjamin Livingston; sisters Mary Sue Livingston, Medra Ethel Lee and brother Jarrell Benton Livingston. He leaves behind his loving wife, Barbara Rathbone Wilson Livingston; son Hugh Samuel Livingston, Jr.; son and daughter-in-law Willlam Lynn Livingston and Janice R. Livingston; step-son and wife Joe and Brenda Wilson; granddaughter Laura Livingston Marsh and husband Steve Marsh; granddaughter Candice Lynn Wilson; grandsons Joshua Christian, Daniel Benjamin and Caleb Samson Livingston and Christopher David Wilson. Hugh is also survived by sisters leanece Newman, Lorraine Livingston, Orpha Maude Lane, Jenny Allred and brothers; David, Don, and Ned Livingston; many nieces and nephews and a host of dear friends and other relatives.

John Oliver Livingston, Jr., 77, passed away on Saturday, May 02, 2020, at his residence. There will be a graveside service held on Wednesday, May 06, 2020, at 2:00PM, from Memory Hill Gardens, with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity provider, in charge of arrangements. John O. Livingston, Jr., was born February 19, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland. He is an alumnus of Maryville College, Maryville, TN, the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Troy University. He was retired from the banking industry, after serving in several capacities working in several banks in the Montgomery and Selma area. Mr. Livingston served in the United States Air Force and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was an avid baseball fan, particularly of the Baltimore Orioles. He relished in playing the game of baseball. He was a stamp collector and a baseball card collector. Everyone who knew John knew he was a “good” man. Well-grounded in his Christian faith, he was open minded but always stood firm in his staunch values. He not only believed God’s word, but he practiced it, in every aspect of his life as he exemplified “…thou shalt love thy God with all thine heart and all thy soul and with all thy might…”. John is survived by his wife of 38 years Margaret Traweek Livingston, one son Matthew Sterner Livingston, two brothers Jay Livingston and Jeff Livingston and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Ann Cole Llewellyn passed away on October 29, 2021 peacefully in her sleep. She will always be loved by her husband John and her pet, Snitz.

Ann was born in Bryson City, N.C., attended Swain County High School and Maryville College. She worked for 40 years in the Land Title Business in Chattanooga.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Ellis and Sarah Cole.

Survivors include her loving husband of 61 years, John Llewellyn; sister, Jean Almond and sister and brother-in-law, Kay and John Eadie.

She was very active in the Simpson U.M.C. where she played the piano for Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was also active in the Women’s activities of the church.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Thomas McCoy Llewellyn, BA1967, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 in Dallas, TX. He was a graduate of Maryville College (TN) and SMU (TX). He was an accomplished musician and organist, and worked as a bank loan officer for 25 years in Dallas. He is survived by his mother, Billie Llewellyn, of Hudson, FL and two brothers, Robert, of Memphis, TN and John, of Port Richey, FL.

was born May 25, 1919 to Ralph W. and Margaret Bell Lloyd in Debris, PA and died on March 8, 2014 in Evanston, IL. Vernon was a corporate lawyer, a veteran , and an active Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) elder. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years. Elizabeth Martin Lloyd, and a sister, Ruth Lloyd Kramer. He is survived by a brother, Hal Baldwin Lloyd (Mary Ellen), and a sister, Louise Lloyd Palm (Jim): six children, Sharon Willy, (Ed), Gayle Blansett (Eual), Norm Currie (Shirley), Tricia Lloyd-Sidle (Phil),Debbie Currie (Judy), Becky Wanberg (Ted), many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A private burial will be held. A Memorial Service will take place on April 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Elliott Chapel Presbyterian Homes, Evanston IL.
