His wife, Barbara nee: Godshalk ’58 died after an illness on May 16, 2015. He wrote to say, “We would have been married 57 years in August of 2015. We had a good life together. We met in Anderson Hall in 1954 in Mrs. Margaret Cummings Bible Class. Barbara taught pre-school and third grade. I served 4 pastorates from 1961 – 1999.”

On Feb. 1, 2015 Jay and his wife Louise (Class 1959) moved back to Oregon. Beaverton is their new home and their son, Ken, is only 12 minutes away.

Shirley Carr Clowney

MC alumna and Alcoa native, Dr. Shirley Carr Clowney '58, digs deep into the story of African-Americans in Blount County. Clowney's book, "Our Place in Time: Blacks in Blount County," is a 133-page paperback book focuses on the contributions of blacks in areas like education, religion, government, sports, armed forces and arts to name a few. received a 2014 Spirit of Good Neighbors lifetime achievement award for her work with Blount County Good Neighbors, which she started in 1996 and served as director for nine years.

Freeman T. Wyche
Class of 1958

Dr. Freeman T. Wyche Sr. ’58 has retired after 38 years of service as the minister of the Liberty City Church of Christ in Miami, Florida. According to the church, “Our brother has tirelessly served the Liberty City Church of Christ for the past 38 years, and his service has blessed not only the local congregation, community, and civic municipalities but has changed many lives for the better by sharing them with them the most precious gift of all, Jesus Christ.” On Feb. 11th, a gala was held in his honor to celebrate his dedication to the church. Dr. Wyche is now Minister Emeritus at the church.
