was the featured artist at Artsclamation! 2012. Howe will have paintings at Artsclamation! in sizes ranging from 8"x10" to 36"x48". Howe believes that he both inherited an eye for beauty, and that, in addition to any inherited tendency, creativity is a sheer gift from God. "One of my grandfathers was a photographer and the other one was a wood carver – a wood artist," Howe explained. Howe worked in woodcarving for about eight years, doing custom work on mantles and door frames for high-end homes. He now makes many of the frames for his paintings himself, such as the one he made for Artsclamation's featured piece this year, "Goldenrods." Howe is a spiritual person and his Christian faith plays a primary role in his life and his work. Jonathan is married to Sarah Atchley-Howe, who is also his business partner. The couple live "urban-artistically" in the heart of Knoxville with their daughter, Aidyn, who is nearly 3 months old, and their pet Maltipoo, Amber. Committed to merging art and their faith in Jesus Christ, the Howe family is active in their local church where they lead a youth group and oversee mission trips with young people.

Entrepreneurship for All, a nonprofit which supports entrepreneurship through mentorship and other activities, recently announced that it has expanded to Cape Cod and named Christin Marshall as executive director of EforAll Cape Cod. Marshall is a 2017 graduate of EforAll’s South Coast Accelerator Program where she founded Camp Timeout, a summer camp experience for grownups. Earlier, she worked as a program coordinator for Barnstable County AmeriCorps. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in international business from Maryville College and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. “EforAll, on a basic level, helps people with a business idea to launch those businesses. It does that in two primary ways,” Marshall told NPR for the Cape and Islands. “We have pitched contests that are kind of like Shark Tank. So, if you apply, and you get accepted, you have two and a half minutes to pitch to a panel of judges and win some seed money for your business.” EforAll was founded in 2010 as the Merrimack Valley Sandbox, and rebranded in 2014 as an independent nonprofit organization. In addition to Lowell and Cape Cod, EforAll has sites in Fall River, Holyoke, Lawrence, Lynn, and New Bedford.

Derek W. Rang
Class of 2007
All Notes General Notes

Derek Rang ’07 named as football coach at Gatlinburg-Pittman Rang compiled a 32-8 record in three seasons at Dresden, including a perfect 15-0 season a year ago that was capped by a Class 1A state championship. Rang replaces Benny Hammonds, who retired on Feb. 23 after 45 seasons at Gatlinburg-Pittman. In his time with the Highlanders, Hammonds posted a 347-165 record. His 348 career wins – he went 1-8-1 during a one-year stint with Cocke County in 1969 – ranks fourth all-time in the state of Tennessee behind Alcoa’s Gary Rankin (397), St. George’s Ken Netherland (368) and Brentwood Academy’s Carlton Flatt (355). “I would like to thank Dr. Jack Parton, of Sevier County Schools, and Tony Ogle and AJ Bennett of Gatlinburg-Pittman High School for giving me the opportunity to be the next head football coach at Gatlinburg-Pittman,” Rang said in a Gatlinburg-Pittman release. “I have the utmost respect for the program coach Benny Hammonds has built over the last 45 years, and, while following a legend will not be easy, I feel we will continue the tradition of excellence on the field, in the classroom, and in the community of Gatlinburg that Coach Hammonds has established. “I cannot wait to join the school and community and start working with the wonderful people of Gatlinburg-Pittman.” Rang has plenty of ties to East Tennessee, beginning with his playing days at Maryville High School and Maryville College. He began his coaching career as an assistant football coach at Anderson County and also has stints as an assistant coach at Carson-Newman and as a defensive coordinator at South-Doyle and West.
