Shortly after graduating in 1987, I was hired by Maryville philanthropist John Thornton to work in sales for his area rug company American Rug Craftsmen. He later sold that company to Mohawk Industries where I continued to work for 15 years. During my time at Mohawk, I served in a variety of senior management positions.
In 2002, I left Mohawk to start the U.S. operation of Europe’s largest area rug manufacturer Balta Industries. I served as President of Balta U.S. for 9 years and helped build the company into one of the largest flooring providers in the U.S.
I worked with a few other companies over the past decade in senior level roles before purchasing multiple franchises with Fundraising University. Today, I own & operate 3 territories stretching from Southern Virginia, all the way down to Chattanooga, and then South to Rome, Georgia.
There is no typical day for me in the office. Daily, I work with coaches, teachers, and administrators at area high schools and middle schools helping them raise money for their programs to improve the student experience. It is incredibly rewarding to deliver big checks to these schools to enable them to purchase new equipment, uniforms, or to afford travel that they might not otherwise been able to experience.
My business career has allowed me to travel to 32 countries and 49 states. I am very fortunate to have been able to see the world while creating opportunities for the companies I worked for.
I credit my education at Maryville College for preparing me to succeed in business and life. My academic focus was on Communications, and it allowed me to become a compelling communicator both in written correspondence and with my ability to speak clearly and concisely with potential customers and colleagues.
When I am not working, I enjoy coaching. Twenty years ago, I founded and continue to serve as the Executive Director for the Fury Premier Fastpitch Softball Organization. Over the past 2 decades we have won 7 National Championships and have seen over 1,000 players go on to play in college.
My wife Kim and I got married when I was still a student at Maryville College. Many people thought we were too young, and our marriage would never make it. Well, we recently celebrated our 41st wedding anniversary. We also have 3 amazing children who are all happily married and have thriving careers of their own. I have had an amazing business career, but nothing comes close to the pride I have in seeing my wife, children, and grandchildren succeed in business, life, and their faith.
…have traveled over 2 million miles and have visited 49 states and 32 countries over the past 35 years.
As a student athlete most of my memories involve the time I spent as a member of the football team or baseball team. When I think back on my fondest memories as a student most of them simply involve the fellowship I enjoyed with my teammates.
