Bradford Scholars

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
-Margaret Mead

The Bradford Scholars program gives financial assistance to 15 students who contribute to local literacy improvement efforts by volunteering in the Blount County area. Bradford Scholars volunteer at various sites, including:

  • Blount County Jail
  • Blount County Schools
  • Adult Basic Education

Scholars commit to 6 hours of volunteer work each week at these agencies, in addition to 2 tutor trainings at the beginning of the Fall semester.

Additional Activities

Bradford Scholars must also participate in 1 special project each semester designed to enhance existing Blount County literacy programs. This project could be an event sponsored the MC Literacy Corps, or it could be with another local organization. Such activities might be fund-raisers or an awareness raising events.
