The Study Abroad Ambassador program builds a culture of travel on campus and promotes education abroad programs and international opportunities. Our mission is to bring the world to campus and bring the campus to the world.
What does this look like? Hosting cultural events like the Torta della Nonna cooking class or bringing African drummers to campus. Celebrating cultures through campfire stories and travel tales. But also marketing international experiences through social media, live events, and print publications.
Have you studied abroad before? SAA allows returned study abroad students a place to continue their learning, reflect on their experience, build skills, and share their experiences from abroad. Students who receive a study abroad scholarship can use the Study Abroad Ambassadors program to fulfill follow-on project requirements.
Want to study abroad? SAA is also a place for students interested in study abroad to begin learning about the study abroad process and better inform themselves about the opportunities they may have abroad. The team empowers students to build on their global experience, and helps their fellow students develop an international scope within their academic experience.
How does becoming a leader of Study Abroad Ambassadors help you?
It can be a great way to meet people, explore cool opportunities and have fun!
But also, it helps develop competencies that employers are looking for when you graduate:
- Build Oral/Written Communications skills while planning outreach events and marketing campaigns to make education abroad more accessible for all students.
- Build Digital Technology skills by leveraging your social media and publishing skills (Canva anyone?) to accomplish our goals.
Build Teamwork/Collaboration skills by engaging with students representing diverse cultures, races, ages, genders, religions, lifestyles, and viewpoints. - Develop Professionalism/Work Ethic. Leaders learn to demonstrate personal accountability and effective work habits, e.g., punctuality, working productively with others, and time workload management.
2025-26 Leadership Team:

#throwback to our first group of SAAs

Study Abroad Ambassadors are an important part of our #MCScotsAbroad Info Sessions and are always willing to answer questions before and after the sessions. The ambassadors are also present across campus for tabling throughout the month to provide information on study abroad and the opportunities available to students. SAAs are often found hanging out in the International House – a student-facing space where all are welcome to hang out, study, or use amenities such as the kitchen, relaxation room, or living room (game night, anyone?).
