Maryville College recognized as Military Friendly® School
Feb. 25, 2021

Maryville College has been recognized as a Military Friendly® School for 2021-22, due to the College’s commitment to and success in attracting and supporting military-related students.
This recognition is the sixth in six years from Viqtory, which is considered a standard-setter for colleges providing positive employment and education outcomes for veterans and their families.
The 2021-22 Military Friendly® Schools list can be found at www.militaryfriendly.com.
Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. More than 1,200 schools participated in the 2021-2022 survey, with 750 earning the designation. Maryville College is one of 16 Tennessee colleges and universities that earned Military Friendly® School designation.
Methodology, criteria and weightings were determined by Viqtory with input from the Military Friendly® Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.
Maryville College also was recently listed in U.S. News & World Report’s “2021 Best Colleges,” ranking in several sub-categories of Southern colleges – including No. 1 in “Best Colleges for Veterans.”
Maryville College (MC) accepts military Tuition Assistance (TA), Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits, TN Strong Act and other veteran educational benefits. Additionally, MC offers a unique level of support with its MC Helping Heroes Scholarship for those military members who have not accrued 100 percent of VA education benefits. The College also provides academic credit for formal military training, accommodations for those with disabilities and career placement assistance for veterans.

Before joining the Maryville College staff on Feb. 22, he was a U.S. Navy recruiter for Navy Recruiting District Philadelphia. In that role, he led a team of 17 Navy recruiters in procurement of more than 400 highly qualified officers and enlisted personnel in the regular and reserve components of the U.S. Navy.
He also served the U.S. Navy as project manager for Naval Network Warfare Command (NETWARCOM), the U.S. Navy’s information operations, intelligence, networks and space unit. As security operations leading petty officer for the USS Theodore Roosevelt, Daniels led a team of 122 law enforcement personnel, including physical security practices, anti-terrorism force protection and daily operations.
At Maryville College, Daniels is responsible for the direct recruiting of prospective student veterans and military dependents; advising and referring student veterans to campus resources; acting as the primary contact for veteran services and issues related to military-affiliated students; providing staff advisor support to the Student Veteran Association; developing and implementing campus-wide education for faculty and staff on student veteran-related topics and Green Zone training; and collaborating with the registrar, Business Office and Financial Aid for the facilitation of VA benefits.
“We are very excited to add Dave to the recruitment team,” said Alayne Bowman, vice president for admissions and financial aid at Maryville College. “His energy and enthusiasm for Maryville College and for the military program, specifically, is incredible. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge as an alumnus and from his experience as a recruiter in the Navy, as well many other duties that are relative and transferable to his position at MC.”
