Summer construction projects underway on MC campus

July 2, 2021

Anyone who drives through the Maryville College campus this summer might notice construction vehicles and work being done on several buildings and areas on campus.

Exterior renovations on Carnegie Hall include new soffits and gutters, and interior painting work is being completed.

Beeson Village is getting a new roof, and the gutters and soffits are being replaced.

Interior work on Cooper Athletic Center includes floor repairs and hallway renovations; the installation of a new fire alarm system; HVAC repairs; painting; and electrical work. The team room is getting a major upgrade with new technology and seating, and the gym is getting a new paint job.

Outdoor athletic facilities are also seeing updates. The baseball team’s visitor’s dugout received a new roof, and the football scoreboard and goal posts are being replaced. The soccer field is being renovated with natural turf and repositioned to make space for a future facility that will provide bathroom facilities for fans and locker and office space for players and coaches of some sports. New lighting will be installed on the soccer field, and a new grandstand, which will include a new press box, is in the works.

The former U.S. Bank building on Lamar Alexander Parkway, now the home of the College’s Office of Institutional Advancement, recently received cosmetic and technological updates, in preparation for 12 employees from the offices of Advancement, Alumni Affairs and Church Relations to move in this summer.

“The improvements taking place across campus, from the residence halls to athletic facilities, are squarely focused on improving and enriching the experiences of our students,” said Dr. Bryan F. Coker, Maryville College president. “Many of these improvements are funded through the generosity of our donors, which is reflective of their confidence in the College and their excitement for our future.”

Maryville College is a nationally-ranked institution of higher learning and one of America’s oldest colleges. For more than 200 years we’ve educated students to be giving citizens and gifted leaders, to study everything, so that they are prepared for anything — to address any problem, engage with any audience and launch successful careers right away. Located in Maryville, Tennessee, between the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the city of Knoxville, Maryville College offers nearly 1,200  students from around the world both the beauty of a rural setting and the advantages of an urban center, as well as more than 60 majors, seven pre-professional programs and career preparation from their first day on campus to their last. Today, our 10,000 alumni are living life strong of mind and brave of heart and are prepared, in the words of our Presbyterian founder, to “do good on the largest possible scale.”
