MC waives gate fees for Homecoming football, volleyball and soccer games

Oct. 18, 2023

Almost all of Maryville College’s fall sports will be competing this weekend during Homecoming celebrations, and to pack the stands, fans will be allowed into venues free of charge.

“Our teams are playing conference opponents at home, so we want to make sure they have clear home field and home court advantages,” said Sara Quatrocky, the College’s athletic director. “Wins for these games are really important to us.”

The MC Homecoming weekend competition starts on Friday, with the MC Scots Volleyball Team (13-11, 8-3) hosting a Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) tri-match tournament. The Scots play Huntington College at 3 p.m. in Boydson Baird Gymnasium. At 7 p.m., the team takes the court against Wesleyan College.

Kickoff for the Maryville College-LaGrange College football game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Honaker Field. The Scots are currently 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the USA South Conference. Pre-game activities will include the bagpiper-led Scot Walk from the McArthur Pavilion at 10:50 a.m., and the Captains Brick Ceremony will begin around 12:35 p.m. on the Donald W. Story Walk of Captains. Students in the College’s American Sign Language and Deaf Studies program will sign the National Anthem, which will be played by the College’s Tartanband. The 2023 inductees for the College’s Wall of Fame will be recognized at halftime.

The MC Scots Men’s Soccer Team (5-5-5, 2-2-1) will take the pitch at 4 p.m. in a match-up against Huntington College, and the MC Scots Women’s Team (9-2-3, 5-0-1) will take on Agnes Scott at 6 p.m. As these games are the last home games of the regular season for the soccer teams, senior players and their families will be recognized during each.

Also, fans are invited to stop by the new Scot-Land Fan Zone in front of Cooper Athletic Center from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Food trucks, a Little Scotties kids area, and alumni and student organization tables will be set up in the area. Nibblet, a miniature horse from Scots Ridge Farm, will also be present.
