Maryville College Admissions team offering after-hours ‘Twilight Tours’ for prospective students

May 15, 2025

There’s something different, something special, about the Maryville College campus on summer evenings, when the light casts long shadows of the historic buildings that have offered a home to Scots since 1869.

Those who wish to become part of such a legacy are invited to take advantage of that late-afternoon reverie by signing up for 5:30 p.m. “Twilight Tours,” which take place on most Thursdays throughout the summer.

“Already, we have more than 300 deposits from incoming first-year students for the 2025-26 academic year, but there’s always room for more!” said Catherine Jahns, assistant director of Admissions and visitor experience at MC. “While classes aren’t going on right now, there’s still plenty of activities going on to give interested young people and their families an idea of what living here, learning here, and playing here will be like.

“During the summer months, Maryville College hosts a number of athletic, cultural and educational camps, and to make sure anyone who wants to explore this place as an option for their higher education, the Admissions office is open, and our ambassadors are standing by to give tours.”

The idea behind the “Twilight Tours” is to give working families time outside of regular work hours to enjoy a full, student-guided walking tour experience that’s conveniently held during cooler evening temperatures as well, Jahns added. Conventional tours will still be offered Mondays through Fridays at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. (Friday tours at 10 a.m. only), and those interested in scheduling one can contact the Admissions office to reserve a spot.

“Whether an after-hours ‘Twilight Tour’ is more convenient, or families want to schedule a campus tour while they’re on vacation in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, we know that undergraduates hoping to enroll in school for the fall semester need to make a decision soon,” Jahns said. “While so much information about Maryville College is available on our website, nothing compares to seeing it in person and judging for yourself whether this is the right place for you.”

Standard summer tours will take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and at 10 a.m. on Fridays, through Aug. 8. Twilight Tours will be offered every Thursday through Aug. 7. The College will be closed for Memorial Day, Juneteenth and July Fourth, and no tours are available on the weekends.

“Classes may not be in session, but Maryville College is always open for prospective students who want to determine if they can see themselves as Scots, and if they can see this campus as home for the next four years,” Jahns added. “Summer tours are a great way to experience life here in person, explore our campus, talk with a current student and connect with an enrollment counselor.”
