Vienna Coffee to open café in Maryville College’s Clayton Center for the Arts

May 21, 2025

In August, Maryville College students will find a cup of joe easier to come by for two reasons: One, the more pedestrian-friendly and better-lit corridor to the Vienna Coffee House on College Street; and two, Vienna at Maryville College, a new café located inside the Clayton Center for the Arts’ (CCA) Building B.

“We are incredibly excited to be the newest outpost for Vienna Coffee Company,” said Dr. Bryan F. Coker, Maryville College president. “Our campus community has hoped to see this type of on-campus amenity for many years, and we know that Vienna is the perfect partner for us. For over two decades, the Vienna coffee houses in Maryville have become beloved local fixtures and popular gathering places for students, faculty and staff.”

Vienna will officially open its doors on the MC campus in August 2025 but will hold limited “sneak peek” openings for special occasions this summer, including the College Street Corridor project ribbon-cutting ceremony set for 9 a.m., June 10, at the entrance to the pedestrian bridge at College and High streets. Following the ceremony, attendees will be invited to walk across the bridge and experience Vienna’s newest location.

The days and hours of operation of Vienna at Maryville College will be announced later and are expected to accommodate some events and performances held in the Clayton Center for the Arts. Open to the wider community as well as the campus residents and employees, guests can expect many of the same drinks and baked goods offered at Vienna’s flagship downtown location.

“With this expansion, we’re thrilled for a presence in the heart of campus life and the Clayton Center for the Arts,” said Kelly Wiggins, COO at Vienna Coffee Company. “This new location is more than a coffee shop, it’s a gathering space for students and the community, whether you’re winding down after class, or enjoying a great cup of coffee after a walk in the College Woods. We’re honored to be part of campus and proud to continue serving our hometown in new and meaningful ways.”

In preparation for the new café, the lobby area of the CCA’s Building B is currently undergoing a renovation that includes updates and additions to the kitchen prep area, as well as new paint, lighting, furniture, décor and signage. Many improvements are being funded through an estate gift from the late Joy Bishop, a beloved local civic leader and volunteer. A dedication service for the space is scheduled for Aug. 26.

In addition to its Maryville locations, Vienna operates a café at the ORNL National Lab and is in partnership with Carson-Newman University’s Maples Coffeehouse to provide coffee and baked goods.
