2013-2014 Scholarships & Awards for First-Year Students

Maryville College provides generous scholarship & award opportunities to deserving students. Scholarships are awarded based on academic information, student interest, student leadership and/or talent. In instances where a candidate qualifies for more than one scholarship, s/he will receive the largest scholarship for which s/he is eligible. Applications may be submitted through mail, in person, or fax to the Maryville College Office of Admissions.

Academic Scholarship Information

Follow these simple steps to apply for admission, for scholarships and to learn more about MC.

Presidential Scholarship Awarded to entering First-Year students with a combined minimum 27+ ACT composite or 1210 SAT (critical reading and math) test score and minimum 3.8 grade point average. No formal application required; it is considered as part of the college application process by academic profile. Requires a commitment of four semesters volunteering as a tutor.

Presidential Scholars with an ACT score of 30 and above will receive an additional $2,000.
$21,000 each year for residential students. $17,000 each year for commuter students. Renewable for eight fall/spring semesters of full-time study with 3.0 GPA each year.
Dean's Scholarship
Awarded to entering First-Year students with a combined minimum 25+ ACT composite or 1130 SAT (critical reading and math) test score and minimum 3.4 grade point average. No formal application required; it is considered as part of the college application process by academic profile. Requires a commitment of three semesters volunteering as a tutor. $20,000 each year for residential students. $16,000 each year for commuter students. Renewable for eight fall/spring semesters of full-time study with 2.75 GPA each year.
Maryville College Scholarship
Awarded to entering First-Year students with a combined minimum 23+ ACT composite or 1050 SAT (critical reading and math) test score and minimum 3.0 grade point average. No formal application required; it is considered as part of the college application process by academic profile. $19,000 each year for residential students. $15,000 each year for commuter students. Renewable for eight fall/spring semesters of full-time study with 2.5 GPA each year.
MC Scots Scholarship
Awarded to entering First-Year students with a combined minimum 19+ ACT composite or 900 SAT (critical reading and math) test score. No formal application required; it is considered as part of the college application process by academic profile. $18,000 each year for residential students. $14,000 each year for commuter students. Renewable for eight fall/spring semesters of full-time study with 2.0 GPA each year.

Competitive Fellowships and Fine Arts Scholarship Information

To compete for these fellowships and/or scholarships, follow these simple steps:

  • Submit an application for admission before January 15, 2013.
  • Send your high school transcript, including senior year courses, and test scores before January 15, 2013.
  • Review the requirements for the available fellowships and scholarships listed below. Select the fellowship(s) and/or scholarship(s) for which you are eligible, complete the application(s), and submit your scholarship reference form(s).
  • Arrange a campus visit to learn as much as you can about the MC experience.

Isaac Anderson Fellowship for Church Leadership
Awarded to entering First-Year student leaders who are interested in exploring ministry as a vocation. Minimum combined 26 ACT or 1170 SAT (critical reading & math) score and minimum 3.5 grade point average. Will be in addition to the student's MC Academic scholarship. A campus interview is required. Submit your fellowship application by February 1.

Annual award of $5,000. Renewable for eight fall/spring semesters of full-time study.
Chapel Fellowship Awarded to entering First-Year students who have experience and interest in worship leading, especially in music for worship. Students receiving this scholarship will be active participants in chapel leadership through the Center for Campus Ministry. Will be in addition to the student's MC Academic scholarship. A campus interview is required. Submit fellowship application by February 1.

Annual award of $4,000. Renewable for eight fall/spring semesters of full-time study.
Church and College Fellowship Awarded to entering First-Year students who are active members of the Presbyterian Church (USA) or the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and who are committed to providing three hours per week of volunteer service to local Presbyterian churches. Will be in addition to the student's MC Academic scholarship. A campus interview is required. Submit scholarship application by February 1.

Annual award of $2,500. Renewable for eight fall/spring semesters of full-time study.
Mountain Challenge Fellowship Awarded to an entering First-Year student who is interested in developing leadership skills, while taking part in one of the South's premier outdoor adventure programs. Minimum combined 23 ACT or 1060 SAT (critical reading & math) score and minimum 3.0 grade point average. Will replace the student's MC Academic scholarship. A campus interview is required. Submit your fellowship application by February 1.

Annual award of $22,000. Renewable for eight fall/spring semesters of full-time study.
Equestrian Team Scholarship Awarded to a highly qualified equestrian who has been riding and showing for a minimum of three years preferably at three (3'0) foot fences or higher.  Candidates must also display a strong academic record with a minimum 25+ ACT composite or 1130+ SAT (critical reading and math) test score and 3.4 grade point average. A rider bio and riding video or possibly in person interview and audition are required.  Will replace the student's MC Academic scholarship. Submit your application by March 15.

Music Scholarship
Open to music majors on the basis of individual talent. Recipients are required to participate in related music ensemble. Will replace the student's MC Academic scholarship. An audition is required. Submit scholarship application by January 15.

In addition to scholarships, Maryville College provides opportunities for additional awards to interested or qualified students. In consideration of scholarships received and financial aid eligibility, individuals could earn up to $2,500 from one of the awards listed below.

Bonner Scholarship Award Open to entering First-Year students who are actively involved in community service. Recipients are required to invest service hours in exchange for scholarship assistance. Submit scholarship application by February 1.

$2,500 for each year plus additional grant money based on family's financial need. Renewable for eight fall/spring semesters of full-time study with satisfactory completion of required service and program participation.
ALANA Cultural Diversity Award Open to entering First-Year students demonstrating academic promise, leadership potential and the ability to contribute to cultural diversity. Recipients are required to participate in related campus organizations and to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. Submit scholarship application by February 1.

Instrumental Music Ensemble Award Open to non-music majors on the basis of individual talent. Recipients are required to participate in a related music ensemble. Audition required. Submit award application by February 1.

Veterans' Benefits

Maryville College welcomes veterans and their eligible dependents who wish to attend Maryville College as full-time students and who are eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill and/or the Yellow Ribbon Program benefits. Students must apply for GI benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
