Dear KT’ers,

Thanks to all of you for your efforts, camaraderie, and flexibility during our 26th year of KT service on the Maryville College campus. As always, the three days were a wonderful and productive time as we came together to honor the KT legacy and our shared commitment to the institution. As the KT Days tradition continues, your accomplishments are a testament to the spirit of service that is so much a part of the Maryville College community.

During the three days of June 11-13, more than 1,800 hours were spent on meaningful projects by the 86 KT volunteers. This year saw a bit of a return to the KT roots, with a number of projects specifically focused on improving the appearance and first impressions of the campus.

As we saw last year, a significant portion of you were first time participants in KT Days, nearly 30%. We also saw a willingness of KT’ers to move from team to team to help ensure completion of all of this year’s projects. Teams also expanded the scope of their projects and added projects to make further improvement to the appearance of the campus.

This year, you:

  • Replaced the roof on the College Woods educational kiosk
  • Repaired the brick edging on center campus sidewalks
  • Refreshed to campus building and parking lot signs
  • Stained the outdoor stairs from the parking lot to the soccer field
  • Stained the rear walkway at the softball press box
  • Stained campus picnic tables and benches
  • Painted the lower sports complex irrigation shed
  • Painted the tennis and soccer storage sheds
  • Removed and treated invasive English Ivy in the College Woods
  • Refreshed and weeded numerous campus landscape locations
  • Continued cataloging and preserving the Archives artifacts collection, focusing on some of the smallest items in the collection
  • Reviewed the collection of approximately 30 student scrapbooks, creating a page-by-page listing of their contents
  • Developed a description of the legal documentation of land transaction from the early twentieth century
  • Continued the work on the Expression, Elocution, and Music programs from 1879-1930
  • Continued the project to digitize and transcribe the older family members’ oral histories created by students in the late 1990’s
  • Digitized eleven back issues of Impressions magazine from 1980-early 2000’s
  • Assisted Alumni Affairs with packaging KT Global tee shirts for mailing

This is an outstanding list of improvements, in service to your continued commitment to the KT legacy. This work would also not be possible without the continued support of the MC administration, Advancement and Alumni Offices, and the Facilities Operations team. Thank you to these groups for supporting the planning and execution of KT Days each year.

Thanks for all your efforts to ‘give back” your time and talents to Maryville College in the spirit of Ken Takahashi. If not before, I hope to see you at MC Homecoming October 25-27, 2024, as we celebrate another year of Maryville College’s rich history.

Go Scots!
