Newly designed MC specialty license plates now available for Tennessee drivers
Oct. 4, 2024
Thousands of Maryville College fans have another exciting way to show their Scots pride.
A new Maryville College-themed specialty license plate is now available for purchase from county clerks’ offices across Tennessee. The plate’s design, created by Maryville College Graphic Design Specialist Laura Greeley ’13, prominently features the College’s logo unveiled in 2021. A mountain range, complementary to the logo, sits at the bottom of the plate, and emanating from it are rays of vibrant oranges.
“The College’s first specialty plates were offered in Tennessee in 2002, and since that time, the design has featured a classic, stylized version of the tower atop iconic Anderson Hall,” said Karen Beaty Eldridge ’94, executive director for Marketing and Communications. “That design has served us well, but with a new logo and a new college-wide emphasis to be more ‘of and for the region,’ we felt like a redesign was necessary and timely.”
Costs for the plate are $61.50 with issuance fees and wheel tax fees applicable in some counties. Individuals wishing to select a three-to-five-character message can pay another $35 for a personalized plate.
Persons with an existing Maryville College specialty license plate will automatically be issued the same number for the new plate at renewal.
“The design is beautiful and distinctive, and we are confident that it will catch the eyes of drivers and passengers on roadways and in parking lots – inside and outside Tennessee,” Eldridge said. “From that, we hope interest is piqued among people who are unfamiliar with Maryville College and that they will be motivated to learn more about us, our location and our unique programs.”
For more information, individuals should visit the Tennessee Department of Revenue website and select on “Title and Registration” section or contact their county clerk’s office.
