Don’t panic! You have several options.
- Pay in full using Self-Service.
- Set up a payment plan for the balance. Nelnet offers several plans that can fit any budget.
- Parents can apply for the Parent PLUS Loan. This loan is in the parent or a stepparent’s name. Payments may begin once the student has graduated or withdrawn from school. If a parent is denied the Parent PLUS loan, the student will receive additional Unsubsidized Loans. Find more information on the StudentAid.gov site.
- Look at an outside loan. FastChoice is a great place to start!
- Any combination of the above options!
Example using multiple payment options |
---|
Student owes $10,000 for the year. |
They pay $2,000 online using Self-Service. |
A parent or guardian knows they can pay $400 per month. So they set up a payment plan for $4,000 or $400 per month for 10 months. |
The remaining balance of $4,000 is paid using a Parent PLUS loan or an outside loan. |
